Job summary

Skyworks Solutions, Inc. is seeking an RF Validation Engineer - Staff in Irvine to advance RF MEMS device characterization and support R&D and NPI/NTI groups. The role involves developing automated tests, scripting in Python/Matlab, and collaborating with suppliers to achieve high dynamic-range test systems.

The ideal candidate has a BS with 8 years or MS with 6 years in engineering, strong RF theory, and experience in RF characterization. MEMS/SAW/BAW knowledge is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • BS with 8+ years or MS with 6+ years; master’s preferred.
  • Strong RF knowledge and understanding of electromagnetic theory and circuit design.
  • Advanced RF characterization, on-wafer level experience preferred.
  • Scripting in Python and/or Matlab; ADS knowledge.
  • Experience with semiconductors and/or acoustic devices.
  • MEMS technology knowledge desirable.
  • Data analytics skills desirable; able to manage large data sets.
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic engineering team with strong communication.
  • Proven presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advance RF MEMS device characterization and analysis (S-parameters, load-pull, IMD, harmonics).
  • Develop new test solutions to understand MEMS capabilities and limits.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and experts to evaluate test solutions with high dynamic range or low noise floor.
  • Specify components to enable advanced measurement systems.
  • Create test scripts in Python/ Matlab for automation in on-wafer and PCB testing.
  • Support lab activities and procurement of equipment and components.
  • Provide technical insights to accelerate BAW/SAW roadmap for smaller, higher-performance devices.

Job Description

Skyworks Solutions seeks an RF Validation Engineer who will provide support in the development of Skyworks’ acoustic SAW/BAW technologies. This engineer will enable the R&D and NPI/NTI group activities by developing and performing advanced characterization and analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Advance the characterization and analysis of RF MEMS devices including S-parameters, hot S-parameters, load-pull, IMD & harmonics generation, noise emissions, and advanced metrology systems such as acoustic vibrometers and thermal imagers.
  • Develop new test solutions required to understand the capabilities and limits of state-of-the-art MEMS devices.
  • Partner with suppliers and industry experts to evaluate superior RF test solutions to obtain reconfigurable test systems with a high dynamic range, or a low noise floor, and/or other critical test metrics.
  • Determine component specifications required to enable advanced measurement systems.
  • Create dedicated test scripts on Python/Matlab to enable automation in on-wafer and PCB testing.
  • Support manage laboratory activities and acquisition of laboratory equipment and components.
  • Provide technical insights to accelerate the BAW/SAW roadmap for next-generation devices focusing on reduced size, enhanced RF performance, and lower cost.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Position requires a BS and 8 years experience or MS and 6 years experience. Master’s degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Strong RF knowledge and understanding of electromagnetic theory and circuit design.
  • Demonstrated skills in advanced RF characterization, on-wafer level preferable.
  • Deep understanding in scripting, especially with Python and/or Matlab, as well as ADS.
  • Knowledge in either semiconductors and/or acoustic devices.
  • Knowledge in semiconductor process or MEMS technology is desirable.
  • Skills in data analytics is desirable, be able to manage large dataset of information.
  • A proven track record as a team player on an engineering team, preferably with experience functioning effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated strong communication /presentation skills.
Desired Experience and Skills
  • The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and experience in working with test methodologies and analysis for semiconductor and/or MEMS devices.
  • The candidate will have strong scripting ability in Python and Matlab, knowledge of ADS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of BAW/SAW devices is a big plus.
  • The candidate will have the ability to function effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic environment and must also be able to collaborate well with other engineers to achieve divisional objectives.
  • The candidate should be able to help manage, keep organized and sustain the characterization lab.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD$108,700 -$226,800 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
