Job summary

Torch Technologies in Huntsville, AL, seeks an RF & Datalinks Engineer to lead RF/datalink efforts for UAS programs. You will advise leadership, oversee system development and fielding, evaluate RF components, and address spectrum, encryption, and resiliency. Occasional travel and on-site work are required at Redstone Arsenal.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support UAS datalink strategies, architectures, and technical requirements.
• Advise PM UAS leadership and stakeholders on RF/datalink approaches.
• Provide oversight for RF and datalink system development, integration, qualification, production, and sustainment.
• Evaluate RF systems, antennas, modems, radomes, interfaces, protocols, software, and waveforms.
• Assess spectrum management, encryption, COMSEC, TRANSEC, EMI/EMC, and EW resiliency.
• Lead and participate in technical working groups and reviews.
• Coordinate with labs, contractors, and external stakeholders.
• Represent PM UAS in technical forums and communicate technical/programmatic considerations.
• Develop and review PWS, SOWs, technical requirements, and evaluation criteria.
• Evaluate approaches based on performance, risk, cost, schedule, and mission needs.
• Support upgrades, obsolescence resolution, and field issue resolution.
• Provide recommendations on architectures, standards, policies, and investments.
• Communicate effectively with engineers, managers, and leadership.

Job description

Torch Technologies is seeking an **RF & Datalinks Engineer** to support the PM UAS Technical Management Division (TMD). This position will serve as a technical expert for UAS RF and datalink systems, working closely with the Chief Engineer, PM UAS Product Offices, Component Technology Branch, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will operate with significant autonomy, solve complex technical challenges, and provide technical leadership across engineering and acquisition activities.### **As a RF & Datalinks Engineer, your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:** * Develop and support UAS datalink strategies, architectures, technical requirements, and future capabilities.* Serve as a technical advisor to the Chief Engineer, TMD leadership, Product Offices, and other PM UAS stakeholders.* Provide technical oversight for RF and datalink system development, integration, qualification, production, fielding, sustainment, and modernization.* Evaluate RF systems, antennas, modems, radomes, interfaces, communications protocols, software, firmware, waveforms, and related technologies.* Assess spectrum management, interoperability, encryption, COMSEC, TRANSEC, EMI/EMC, and EW resiliency considerations.* Support assessments of current and emerging RF, communications, and datalink technologies, standards, and architectures.* Assess threat environments and their potential impact on UAS RF and communications systems.* Lead and participate in technical working groups, interface control working groups, engineering reviews, and acquisition forums.* Coordinate with government laboratories, contractors, Product Offices, military organizations, and other external stakeholders.* Represent PM UAS in technical forums and communicate technical and programmatic considerations to diverse audiences.* Develop and review Performance Work Statements, Statements of Work, technical requirements, evaluation criteria, and other acquisition documentation.* Evaluate competing technical approaches based on performance, integration risk, cost, schedule, sustainment, and mission requirements.* Support system upgrades, modernization, obsolescence resolution, and field issue resolution.* Provide technical recommendations regarding architectures, standards, policies, and investments.* Communicate effectively with engineers, program managers, acquisition professionals, logisticians, contractors, and senior leadership.* Perform additional systems engineering and technical activities as assigned.**Required Qualifications** * U.S. Citizenship* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or another relevant technical discipline.* 5+ years of related experience.* Ability to obtain and maintain a secret level clearance.* Demonstrated experience supporting complex technical systems, engineering programs, or acquisition programs.* Strong understanding of RF, communications, datalink, or related mission-system technologies.* Ability to independently investigate complex technical issues and develop sound technical recommendations.* Experience developing and presenting technical reports, briefings, assessments, and recommendations to management and senior leadership.* Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.* Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.* Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.* Ability to work primarily on-site with limited telework eligibility.* Ability to travel up to 25%.* U.S. citizenship.* Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.**Preferred Qualifications** * Experience supporting **UAS, Army Aviation, RF, communications, datalink, EW, or tactical communications systems**.* Experience with **UAS datalinks, RF architectures, antennas, modems, waveforms, or spectrum management**.* DoD acquisition or Product/Program Management Office experience.* Experience with **COMSEC, TRANSEC, EMI/EMC, EW resiliency, or secure communications**.* Experience developing technical requirements, acquisition documentation, and engineering assessments.* Current **TS/SCI clearance** or ability to obtain and maintain one. **Physical Requirements**The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
