Job summary

Impact Advisors, LLC is seeking an experienced Coding Auditor to join our team. You will perform routine, focused, and validation audits of professional coding across multiple specialties to evaluate coding accuracy, documentation support, compliance requirements, and reimbursement impact.

You will review audit findings, provide actionable feedback, monitor coding trends, and identify opportunities for quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of medical coding auditing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Experience conducting coding audits and delivering audit feedback.
  • Ability to interpret medical documentation and apply accurate coding principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary coding SME for assigned clients; participate in client meetings and provide guidance on coding, documentation, and compliance questions.
  • Assist with production coding during high-volume periods; maintain productivity and quality.
  • Review denials and identify opportunities for appeal or correction; collaborate with revenue cycle teams to reduce denial trends.

In this role, you will perform routine, focused, and validation audits of professional coding across multiple specialties to evaluate for coding accuracy, documentation support, compliance requirements and reimbursement impact.

The coding auditor will review audit findings and provide clear, actionable feedback to others, monitor coding trends and identify opportunities for quality improvement.

This role will effectively track coding issues or trends to elevate them to the Team Lead or Manager to ensure compliance with coding.

Auditing and Quality Assurance

Conduct root cause analysis on coding errors and recurring issues. Track and report audit results, quality metrics, and performance trends. Ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, payer-specific guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Education & Training

Serve as a coding resource and mentor for coding staff. Develop and deliver individual and group education sessions based on audit findings and identified trends. Assist with onboarding and training of new coders. Create educational materials, reference guides, and coding resources. Support ongoing coder development through coaching and performance feedback.

Client Support & Subject Matter Expertise

Serve as the primary coding subject matter expert for assigned clients. Participate in client meetings and provide guidance on coding, documentation, and compliance questions. Research complex coding scenarios and communicate recommendations to clients and internal teams. Assist leadership with coding policy development and implementation.

Production Coding Support

Assist with production coding during periods of increased volume, staffing shortages, or operational needs. Maintain productivity and quality expectations while supporting coding workflows. Complete coding work queues accurately and efficiently.

Denials & Revenue Cycle Support

Review coding-related denials and identify opportunities for appeal or correction. Partner with coding, revenue cycle, and operations teams to reduce denial trends. Provide education and recommendations to prevent future denials. Assist with payer audit responses and documentation reviews as needed.

Compliance & Process Improvement

Stay current on coding regulations, industry updates, and payer changes. Participate in internal and external audits. Recommend process improvements that enhance coding quality, efficiency, and compliance. Support special projects, client initiatives, and operational needs as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years of medical coding auditing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Experience conducting coding audits and delivering audit feedback.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience auditing surgery specialties such as OB/GYN, ortho, and urology; E/M auditing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Epic EMR system.
  • CPC, CPMA, CCS-P, or equivalent coding certification.
  • Experience with physician/professional fee coding.
  • Experience working directly with clients.
  • Knowledge of denial management and appeals processes.
  • Experience developing coder education and training programs.

Work Schedule: Remote-friendly with flexible scheduling based on project requirements. This position is a non-exempt hourly position, additional benefits and perks may also be available, depending on the position and employment terms.
