Job summary

Mesa Energy Systems, Inc. in Thousand Oaks, CA seeks an Estimator for HVAC retrofit projects to prepare full cost estimates using field data and client documents.

You will coordinate with account managers, engineering and sales, interpret customer drawings and codes, and ensure timely, organized quotation packages compliant with California codes.

Required: Mechanical engineering degree with 4+ years of retrofit experience and strong proficiency in Office Suite.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 4+ years' experience estimating HVAC retrofit projects.
• Broad knowledge of mechanical systems: chillers, boilers, piping, ductwork, RTU/AHU/VAV/VRF.
• Strong writing and ability to read RFPs and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Gather information for each estimating job from account managers, users, engineers and vendors.
• Interpret field conditions to estimate costs for large retrofits without drawings or specs.
• Review customer drawings and requirements to form quotation strategies.
• Collaborate with estimating, engineering and sales to develop winning quotations.
• Apply knowledge of California Mechanical Code and local codes.
• Identify cost/availability for equipment, materials and labor in quotes.
• Prepare bill of materials and labor estimates using estimating docs and software.

Job Summary

Responsible for preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of full cost estimates on small to large and complex projects using field job walk information and/or client provided project documents for HVAC retrofit projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Actively gather information for each estimating job by talking directly with the account manager, the end user, the engineering team, the estimating team, vendors and/or other sources of information.
• Ability to interpret field conditions to determine project direction and able to provide costs associated with large scale mechanical retrofits project without the use of drawing, plans or specifications.
• Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and requirements were provided for formulating quotation strategies.
• Work with estimating, engineering and sales departments to analyze customer requirements and develop a winning strategy for every quotation.
• Understand and have a working knowledge of the California Mechanical Code and local municipal codes.
• Identify optimum cost/availability for equipment, materials and labor estimated in the quotation process.
• Learn to effectively utilize all estimating documentation and electronic programs in preparation of the bill of material and labor estimate for all quotations.
• Complete all documentation on time and in an organized manner consistent with company policies and management directives.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree and equivalent experience.
• 4+ years' experience in the estimation of HVAC retrofits or Retrofit field experience.
• An overall broad understanding of all types of mechanical systems, such as chillers, boilers, cooling towers, primary and secondary piping, HVAC ductwork, RTU, AHU, VAVs, and VRF.
• Self-Starter, strong work ethic, get the job done attitude and overall, TEAM player.
• Experience with customer-occupied sites during construction, commercial, and industrial environments.
• Must be fluent with Office Suite (SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
• Strong technical writing skills, ability to read and interpret RFPs, drawings and/or construction plans are required for success.
• This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to perform detailed work in a timely manner, follow up through order closure, and move the project to the operations team.

Geographic Disclosure

Compensation Range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year
