Job summary

Jackson Public Schools in Summit Township, MI seeks a Retired Teacher Tutor to deliver targeted academic support for students, using their teaching experience to provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned with grade-level expectations.

The tutor will reinforce reading, writing, and math foundations, monitor progress, and collaborate with teachers while maintaining confidentiality and a positive learning environment. Part-time, 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Must have valid or previously held Michigan teaching certificate.
• Experience teaching in a classroom setting is required.
• Experience with students at the target grade level or subject area is preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills.
• Ability to work independently and with students.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Retired Teacher Tutor will provide supplemental academic support to students to improve academic achievement, strengthen foundational skills, and assist students in meeting grade-level learning expectations. The tutor will use their professional teaching experience to provide individualized and small-group instruction based on student needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring to students in assigned subject areas.
• Assist students with understanding classroom instruction, assignments, and academic concepts.
• Reinforce foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and other applicable subject areas.
• Develop and implement instructional strategies to address individual student learning needs.
• Monitor student progress and communicate areas of improvement or concern to appropriate school personnel.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators to support student academic goals.
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student attendance, and progress.
• Create a positive, encouraging, and supportive learning environment.
• Follow all district policies, procedures, and student confidentiality requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or supervisor.

Qualifications
