Job Summary
The Visual Merchandiser uses creativity and a strong sense of style to design and maintain displays that enhance the shopping experience and highlight key products. The role focuses on seasonal trends, three‑dimensional props, vinyl graphics, and in‑store events to bring brand concepts to life. A good eye for design, knowledge of fashion and visual presentation, and safe use of tools and materials are essential.
Responsibilities
- Begin each day energized and ready to make an impact, greeting teammates with a positive attitude and ensuring the sales floor is visually inspiring, well‑organized, and ready to welcome customers.
- Review store priorities, assess product placement, and stay informed on new arrivals, top sellers, and trending items so every display is purposeful, on‑brand, and drives customer engagement and sales.
- Focus on the customer by offering a warm welcome, making eye contact, and creating friendly, personal conversations that foster repeat visits.
- Maintain a shoppable space by refreshing displays, updating signage and pricing, and supporting merchandise moves to reflect current priorities and trends.
- Support merchandise moves and keep the floor organized throughout the day, updating visual signage and keeping displays ready for customers.
- Collaborate and communicate with store leadership and cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment on priorities and initiatives.
- Install promotional and event collateral—including vinyl graphics, wall signage, and prop displays—in line with the company’s marketing calendar and direction.
- Construct and install three‑dimensional elements using hand and power tools such as drills, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, staple guns, ladders, spray paint, and knives.
- Demonstrate resourcefulness by adding creative details and enhancements that reflect Macy’s style while staying within visual direction.
- Support merchandising initiatives across departments on a monthly, quarterly, and seasonal basis.
Qualifications
- Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to understand and communicate effectively with customers, co‑workers, and supervisors, and interpret employment policies, visual merchandising directives, and safety rules/procedures in English.
- Ability to creatively execute all visual merchandising projects in assigned departments on a monthly, quarterly, and seasonal basis.
- Strong knowledge of current fashion trends while upholding Macy’s visual merchandising standards in mannequin styling, window displays, fixture placement, wall formatting, product placement, and visual collateral usage.
- Experience in installing vinyl graphics, wall signage, and prop displays per marketing calendar and direction.
- Physical capability to lift at least 50 lbs, stand for at least two consecutive hours, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and reach above eye level.
- Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job functions, including handheld equipment and cash register to process transactions.
- Full‑time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week; part‑time colleagues are scheduled for 12‑24 hours per week. All schedules contain weekend shifts. Hours are dependent on business needs and colleague availability.
Physical Requirements
The position requires speaking, lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. The employee must be able to stand for at least two consecutive hours, lift at least 50 lbs, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and reach above eye level. The role also requires ongoing use of computers and other technology, including handheld equipment and cash registers.
