Goodwill Industries of Houston in Katy is seeking a Retail Team Lead to oversee day-to-day store and donation-area operations, delivering world-class customer service and efficient processing of donated goods.

You will open/close, supervise staff, manage cash, train associates, and ensure safety and policy compliance while driving sales and KPI performance in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Management experience is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of retail sales experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, standard operating procedures, and workplace communications.
  • Good computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office).
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with a variety of personality types.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including holidays, evenings, overnight, and weekend shifts.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Store Manager in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, including opening/closing and daily operations.
  • Maintain open availability to assist with management and leadership needs beyond rotating schedule.
  • Help ensure the Safety Program is managed efficiently.
  • Lead and communicate clear daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals to the team.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain cash accountability at POS and safe.
  • Assist with training and development of associates when needed.
  • Oversee proper handling and processing of donated goods in and out of the store following GWH policies.
  • Operate store systems and ensure donor counts and production standards are accurate.
  • Ensure timely rotation of apparel and hard goods according to policies.

Position Summary:

Assist with the day-to-day operations and management of the store and donation area. To ensure efficient and cost-effective operation through world‑class customer service, processing donated goods, quality control, and maintaining a productive workforce.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all management duties in the absence of Store Manager (SM) or an Assistant Store Manager (ASM), including opening/closing, all day‑to‑day store operations, and management of store associates.
  • Adhere to working the established rotating schedule unless otherwise directed or approved by the District Manager.
  • Maintain open availability to assist the store with management and leadership needs, including time frames outside of the management rotating schedule if needed.
  • Help ensure the Safety Program is being managed efficiently.
  • Manage and influence the team by communicating clear company daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain proper cash accountabilities at POS registers/safe.
  • Assist with the training and development of associates when needed.
  • Help ensure the proper handling and processing of incoming donation flow in and out of the store by always utilizing proper equipment according to GWH policies and procedures.
  • Accurately operate all store systems and ensure financial and statistical counts are completed (donor counts, production standards, etc.).
  • Help ensure the timeliness of proper rotation of apparel and hard goods according to GWH policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management to support evolving organizational needs.

  • Customer Service (Feedback from team, secret shopper, and donor ratings for assigned district)
  • Change Round up as a % of Transactions (>30% and higher than the previous year)
  • Active with Zero hours TMs vs Goal (Zero (0) – 28+ days) (Assigned District)
  • Administration - Performance management/Training (Assigned District at <5%)
  • Reporting Team Meeting Minutes, Safety, Over/Short (Assigned District)
  • Safety – 95% quarterly safety metric score

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Regular twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and, occasionally, lift/move items up to 100 lbs. (e.g., large bags of donations, televisions, furniture, etc.).
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate indoor noise with periodic exposure to outside temperatures.
