Job summary

Men's Wearhouse is seeking a Retail Store Tailor—Alterations to join our team. The role focuses on high-quality clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs, with an emphasis on customer satisfaction and accurate, timely results.

The Tailor will work in a team environment, maintain a clean workspace, and support inventory and sales staff by sharing tailoring knowledge and providing fit guidance to customers.

Qualifications

• Proficient in standard alterations including pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering, coat sleeves, side seams, and collar adjustments.
• Able to maintain 60 minutes of productive alteration work per hour.
• Ensure garments meet high-quality standards with clean finishes and secure stitching.
• Press garments for a clean, crisp finish.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and properly store tools/materials.
• Demonstrate proficiency with tailor shop equipment.
• Ensure completed work is accurately tagged and ready for pickup.
• Assist with inventory management and replenishment requests.

RETAIL STORE TAILOR—ALTERATIONS

The Tailor delivers high-quality craftsmanship and ensures a perfect fit for customers through clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong sewing and alteration abilities, and a commitment to excellence. As a key member of a high-performing team, the Tailor is expected to demonstrate reliability, accuracy, efficiency, and a strong focus on customer satisfaction. The Tailor also contributes to a positive and professional work environment by collaborating effectively with colleagues and upholding company standards at all times.

Essential Functions

Tailor Shop Production & Operations

• Efficiently perform standard alterations - including but not limited to pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering modifications, coat sleeves, side seams, and lower collar adjustments - in alignment with company guidelines.
• Maintain an average of 60 minutes of productive alteration work per working hour, allowing for appropriate rest and meal periods and time for non-tailoring tasks as needed.
• Ensure all garments meet high-quality standards, including clean finishes, secure stitching, even seams, and the removal of loose threads and pins.
• Press garments to ensure a clean crisp finish.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace; ensure all tools and materials are properly stored and well-maintained.
• Demonstrate proficiency with all tailor shop equipment.
• Ensure completed work is accurately tagged, organized, and ready for customer pickup.
• Assist with inventory management by monitoring tailoring supplies and requesting replenishment from management as needed.

Customer Service

• Support front-of-house activities as needed, such as cleaning, restocking merchandise, or assisting customers.
• Participate in customer consultations at the direction of management, offering guidance and recommendations on alterations and garment fit.
• Deliver an exceptional customer experience by listening to customer needs and offering personalized solutions.
• Adapt to changing workload priorities and scheduling needs as directed by management.

Team Based Work Environment

• Share specialized tailoring knowledge and/or techniques with fellow tailors to ensure consistent quality and ongoing skill development.
• Assist in training sales staff on tailoring fundamentals, including marking, fitting, measuring and pressing techniques.
• Seek and respond to constructive feedback from your management team and communicate concerns or requests promptly.
• Report any incidents, accidents, or safety hazards to the manager on duty and/or your Regional Manager.
• Support sales staff by providing tailoring insights that enhance product knowledge and improve the customer experience.
• Uphold standards of professional appearance and personal care.

Physical And Mental Requirements

• Ability to operate small tools and equipment - including, but not limited to, needles, scissors, sewing machines, and presses, with precision.
• Ability to understand, follow, and execute detailed instructions.
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure all garments meet quality standards.
• Excellent time management skills to complete each alteration efficiently within designated timeframes.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
• Ability to read, count, and write to complete required documentation accurately.
• Physically able to bend, squat, lift arms overhead, and use ladders to access merchandise and supplies stored above shoulder level.
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week when needed, including any hours the store is in operation.

Pay Range: $17.13-27.42/hr

We take into consideration an individual’s skills, background and experience in determining final salary. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
