Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Temporary Campus Store Team Member to deliver an exceptional retail experience and support daily store operations. You will greet customers, help locate materials, and process transactions at the register, while keeping the floor neat and stocked for students and staff.

Temporary assignments offer varied hours and may last up to 90 days. A flexible schedule, strong customer service mindset, and teamwork are essential to thrive in a fast-paced campus store

Working alongside store leaders and teammates, this role creates a welcoming, customer-focused environment by providing outstanding service, maintaining an organized and well-stocked sales floor, and ensuring customers can easily find the products and services they need. Every interaction helps create a positive shopping experience that reflects the Barnes & Noble College brand.Temporary assignments offer varied weekly hours and may last up to 90 days based on business needs.How You'll Make an ImpactDeliver an exceptional customer experience by greeting customers, answering questions, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service.Assist customers in locating course materials, school supplies, apparel, gifts, convenience items, and other merchandise that best meets their needs.Operate the point-of-sale system to accurately process transactions, including cash, credit, and financial aid purchases.Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor through merchandising, replenishment, recovery, and housekeeping.Support daily store operations by assisting with inventory, receiving merchandise, order fulfillment, and other operational tasks to keep the store customer-ready.Develop product knowledge by staying informed about merchandise, promotions, store services, and course materials to confidently assist customers.Work collaboratively with teammates to accomplish daily priorities while adapting to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.Contribute to a clean, safe, and organized store environment that reflects the Barnes & Noble College brand and delivers an exceptional customer experience.What You'll Need to SucceedMust be at least 16 years of age (minimum age in California locations is 18).Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.Passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating a positive shopping experience.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and teammates.Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.Ability to work a flexible schedule throughout the temporary assignment based on business needs.Physical Demands:Frequent movement throughout the store to access and transport merchandise, assist customers, and support daily operations.Routine tasks may involve hanging and/or folding merchandise, stocking shelves, unpacking merchandise received, pulling and packing web orders for customers, pulling and packing merchandise to be returned to vendors, transporting merchandise within the store, assisting with the delivery of course materials to students within the store, completing data entry, or a variety of other physical tasks.Ability to remain in a stationary position for periods of time.Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of merchandise.Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.May be required to perform routine housekeeping duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash removal.How We Elevate Our EmployeesAll hourly employees are eligible for:DailyPay earned wage access.Sick time accrual from date of hire.Generous employee discounts, including course materials and textbooks.The opportunity to gain valuable experience.Temporary Campus Store Team Members are hired at the base rate of the range shown above.Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, & InclusionAt Barnes & Noble College, we empower everyone.
