Job summary

Goodwill Industries of West Michigan, Inc. is seeking a Retail Production Worker for a part-time, hourly role at our store. The position focuses on sorting and pricing donated goods, with emphasis on accuracy and efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include processing textiles, handling donations, operating equipment such as pump carts, and maintaining safe work practices. Availability for after-hours, weekends, and holidays is required; training provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience in retail operations preferred.
• Availability to work after-hours, weekends and some holidays.

Responsibilities

• Sort and price donated goods.
• Process textiles and hardlines following guidelines; recognize brand, vintage, and collectible items.
• Receive and sort donations by category.
• Operate pump cart and stacker to move containers, totes, etc.
• Move and organize items to optimize space and materials.
• Operate compactor with safe procedures.

Retail Production Worker - Part Time, Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Responsible for the sorting and pricing of donated goods and materials.

Job Functions

• Textiles and Hardlines Processing
  • Follow established sorting and pricing guidelines.
  • Recognize name brand, vintage, and collectible items.
  • Size and hang textiles.
  • Differentiate materials and place in proper containers, z-racks, etc.
• Donation Attendant
  • Receive donated items.
  • Sort donations by category.
• Operate pump cart and stacker to move containers, totes, etc.
• Make proper use of available space and materials.
• Operate Compactor
  • Recognize and follow proper material content.
  • Know the mechanical operation of the compactor.
  • Understand and demonstrate safe operation.

Physical Requirements

• Medium work, occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force and/or up to 25 pounds of lifting, frequent lifting up to 10 pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, reaching, handling, hearing, talking, seeing and repetitive movement.

Work Conditions

• Inside generally 100%, however, may include outside work on occasion.
• Limited emotional effort. Work environment routine with periods of isolated high stress. Short deadlines requiring some overtime.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in retail operations preferred.

Other Requirements

• Availability to work after-hours on special projects.
• Availability to work weekends and some holidays

• Must be able to provide positive internal and external customer relations and to easily interact and work with individuals referred for training.
• Demonstrate ability to think independently in supervisor’s absence.
• Demonstrate quality control and accuracy with sorting and pricing guidelines.
• Kaizen principles: follow 6S Checklist, procedures, signage, and layout.

Supervision Received

• Position reports directly to the Salvage and Production Manager or Retail Store Manager.
