Retail Pharmacy Technician - LaGrange, GA

Wellstar Health System is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients. The technician performs technical duties in the pharmacy department under the supervision of the Pharmacist, including retrieving prescription orders, counting, pouring, measuring and weighing tablets and medications, mixing medications, selecting containers, creating prescription labels, maintaining patient profiles, completing cash register transactions, answering phones, and inventory management of over-the-counter medications.

Job Summary

Assist the pharmacists in providing quality pharmaceutical care to all patients by performing technical duties in the pharmacy department, under the supervision of the Pharmacist.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Data intake from patients to acquire necessary information for properly filling prescriptions, ensuring all legally required data is collected.
  • Prescription processing using existing computer software; communicate with third-party payers and resolve electronic adjudication issues; accurately record prescriptions dispensed; contact physicians and benefits providers as needed; complete third-party insurance forms and other paperwork.
  • Cash handling: complete cash transactions with customers, use POS equipment and credit card processing machines, and perform end-of-day reports and closing procedures.
  • Telephone transactions: maintain courteous telephone communications and represent the business well over the phone.
  • Other duties: provide a professional and confidential environment for customers; ensure compliance with applicable federal and state rules; manage inventory of prescription and OTC medications; maintain a safe and clean pharmacy; generate reports from the pharmacy computer system; stay knowledgeable about pharmaceuticals and OTC items; prepare/compound ointments and creams as needed.
  • Product knowledge: maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceuticals and OTC items; ensure proper preparation/compounding when needed.

Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

High school graduate or GED diploma from an accredited program, required.

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • CPHT - Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • PHT - Registered Pharmacy Technician
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Must be licensed by the State of Georgia. Upon hire required.

Required Minimum Experience

Experience in all phases of retail pharmacy operations, including data entry into pharmacy software, purchasing/inventory control, controlled substance documentation, data intake from customers, and strong customer service skills. Prior retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
