Job summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Outpatient Pharmacy at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a 9am-5pm schedule Monday through Friday and participation in a rotating Saturday/holiday schedule.

Responsibilities include dispensing medications, entering orders, handling calls, and ensuring compliance with USP and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy technician licensure requirements: obtain CPhT within 2 years (PTCB) or NHA.
  • High school diploma required.
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop competence in dispensing and medication delivery.
  • Prepare non-sterile medications per USP/state/federal guidelines.
  • Enter medication orders in computer systems and process requests.
  • Handle calls from nurses, physicians, and patients with timely resolution or proper hand-off.
  • Maintain compliance with pharmacy procedures, documentation, and regulatory standards.
  • Follow USP, regulatory, and accreditation requirements including controlled substances procedures.

Monday - Friday 9am-5pm. Every 7th Saturday and 1 holiday per year.

Pay Range:

$21.85 - $32.80

Major Responsibilities:
  • Develops competence in dispensing and delivery of medications. This includes developing competence in the department's use of information systems, technology, and automation used for dispensing and storage of medications.
  • Develops competence in preparing non-sterile products following USP, state, and federal recommendations, as required.
  • Develops competence in entering medication orders in the computer system and/or processing medication requests via the computer system.
  • Develops competence in managing phone calls from customers and team members such as nurses, physicians or patients. This includes accurately understanding and interpreting the issue, timely resolution, or timely hand-off to another team member as appropriate.
  • Develops competence in pharmacy procedures and documentation as required, satisfying legal, regulatory, and department requirements of pharmacy practice.
  • Complies with legal, regulatory accreditation standards. This includes (but is not limited to) controlled substance procedures, USP procedures and DNV requirements.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board needs to be obtained within 2 years, or
  • Pharmacy Technician Certified (CPhT) issued by the National Healthcare Association needs to be obtained within 2 years.
Education Required:
  • High School Graduate.

  • Good mathematics skills.

  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the work day.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to chest level; lift and carry up to 35 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance; push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
