Job Summary

PetSmart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) shares responsibility for driving operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role involves merchandising, inventory management, pet care operations, store opening/closing, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe environment.

Principal Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership:

• Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, providing training on product knowledge and presentation standards.
• Facilitate the associate experience and support development through training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Delegate and validate daily tasks.
• Lead and direct associates when acting as the leader on duty.
• Address and resolve associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognize and celebrate associates to boost engagement.

Store Operations and Overall Store Experience:

• Implement merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving, placement, displays, and promotions.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, analyze sales trends, and recommend replenishments and markdowns.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and address discrepancies.
• Operate POS systems and handle transactions accurately and in compliance with policies.
• Uphold store standards and foster a culture of empowerment and compliance with policies and ethics.
• Participate in store opening and closing procedures.
• Perform monthly cycle counts and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure pet care standards, including cleaning, feeding, and health monitoring.
• Enhance customer experience with online orders and pet care services.
• Report and act on sick or injured pets, ensuring their safety and health.
• Follow policies for new pet arrivals, including quarantine and health checks.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of retail supervisory experience in a customer-focused environment.
• Full-time availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in store presentation.

Supervisory Responsibility

• No direct reports, but expected to support and guide other associates.
• Provide performance feedback to supervisors.
• Act as the leader in the absence of other managers, supervising staff and managing tasks.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 100 pounds with assistance.
• Work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise levels, with occasional exposure to live animals.
