Position Title: Retail Manager

Reports To: Manager III

Department: Stores

FLSA Status: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Retail Manager with America's Thrift, you will play a key role in the daily operations of the store, ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers while supporting the Manager III in achieving business goals. You will lead, train, and develop team members, uphold company values, and drive operational excellence. Your ability to manage sales, inventory, merchandising, customer service, and team development will directly impact store profitability and community impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing store team members, including supervisors and stock associates.
• Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and development plans to enhance team productivity and engagement.
• Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, motivation, and career growth.
• Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer service and training team members on best practices.
• Address and resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
• Build strong relationships with customers and the local community to drive brand loyalty and repeat business.
• Support sales targets by optimizing merchandising strategies, creating an engaging shopping environment, and promoting upselling opportunities.
• Assist in overseeing daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures and maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing store.
• Manage inventory control, product quality, and loss prevention efforts to minimize shrinkage and optimize sales.
• Ensure accuracy in cash handling, deposits, and financial reporting.
• Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety regulations while conducting regular audits and compliance checks.
• Collaborate with People & Culture and Asset Protection on investigations and corrective actions when necessary.
• Support donation processing by ensuring efficient intake, organization, and donor engagement.
• Work closely with the Manager III and store leadership team to enhance store performance through optimized donation flow and a positive donor and shopping environment.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience in a retail management, logistics, or operations role.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills with a proven ability to motivate, coach, and develop team members.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to reliable transportation.
• Successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday, primarily on tile and concrete surfaces.
• Ability to bend and reach at waist and overhead levels and perform repetitive movements associated with retail and operational activities.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, push, pull, handle, and carry merchandise, equipment, or other materials as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to safely use ladders or other approved equipment and work at heights of up to approximately 14 feet.
• Ability to use hands and fingers for handling, grasping, feeling, and operating merchandise, equipment, POS systems, and other technology.
• Must have the visual and auditory ability necessary to communicate effectively, observe store conditions, inspect merchandise, monitor safety, and perform essential job responsibilities.
• Must be able to move throughout all areas of the store, including the sales floor, stockroom, processing areas, donation areas, and other operational spaces.
• Must be able to work both indoors in a semi-controlled retail environment and outdoors where exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures may occur.
• Ability to tolerate normal retail and donation-processing conditions, including exposure to dust, odors, and second-hand merchandise.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and respond promptly to customer service, operational, and safety-related needs.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
