You will set the processes, standards, staffing, and daily rhythm to accurately receive, store, track, replenish, pick, pack, and ship inventory.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, operationally strong, and comfortable creating from-scratch processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in inventory, fulfillment, warehouse, or retail operations.
  • Experience with inventory management systems (WMS), POS, ERP, or related software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and improve processes.
  • Hands-on leadership style and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead inventory control, receiving, shipping, and fulfillment at the Detroit location.
  • Establish and enforce inventory-control procedures and daily standards.
  • Coordinate transfers, replenishment, and movement across the store.
  • Ensure accurate receiving, packing, and shipping, with quality checks.
  • Recruit, train, and develop Inventory and Shipping team members.
  • Set staffing levels and daily operating rhythms for growth.
  • Collaborate with Buying, Retail, Finance, and Operations on inventory issues.

Job description

The Inventory & Shipping Manager is responsible for building and leading the inventory control, receiving, shipping, and fulfillment operation for the Detroit location.

This role will be critical to the successful launch of the store and will establish the processes, standards, staffing, and daily operating rhythm required to accurately receive, store, track, replenish, pick, pack, and ship inventory.

The position requires someone who is highly organized, operationally strong, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and capable of building processes from the ground up.

The ideal candidate will combine strong inventory discipline with hands-on leadership and a willingness to work directly alongside the team when needed.

Core Responsibilities
Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory records across receiving, storage, sales floor, fulfillment, and other designated areas.
  • Establish inventory-control procedures and daily operating standards.
  • Manage inventory transfers, adjustments, replenishment, and movement.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and investigate discrepancies.
  • Coordinate regular cycle counts and physical inventory.
  • Identify recurring inventory issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure high-value inventory is handled and secured according to company standards.
  • Partner with Buying, Retail, Finance, and Operations on inventory-related issues.
Receiving
  • Oversee inbound product receiving.
  • Verify quantities, condition, documentation, and system records.
  • Ensure inventory is received and processed accurately and quickly.
  • Resolve shipment discrepancies with appropriate internal teams and vendors.
  • Establish clear receiving standards and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain organized receiving and staging areas.
  • Lead day-to-day shipping and fulfillment operations.
  • Ensure orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time.
  • Establish quality-control checks before shipments leave the facility.
  • Monitor shipping errors, damages, delays, and customer-impacting issues.
  • Coordinate relationships with shipping carriers.
  • Maintain appropriate shipping supplies and equipment.
  • Improve workflows as volume increases.
Store Replenishment
  • Build a consistent replenishment process between inventory areas and the retail floor.
  • Monitor stock levels and product availability.
  • Ensure high-demand inventory is replenished quickly.
  • Coordinate with store leadership to prioritize inventory movement.
  • Minimize stockouts caused by operational delays.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and develop Inventory and Shipping team members.
  • Help determine appropriate staffing levels for opening and future growth.
  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop productivity and accuracy expectations.
  • Hold employees accountable for execution and results.Create a culture of accuracy, urgency, teamwork, and ownership.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in inventory, fulfillment, warehouse, shipping, retail operations, or a related environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control and receiving processes.
  • Experience managing shipping and fulfillment operations.
  • Experience working with inventory management, WMS, POS, ERP, or related systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to build and improve processes.
  • Comfortable being hands-on when required.
