Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, founded in 1916, is one of the largest providers of rehabilitation services in Ohio. Utilizing our retail store network, we generate sales revenue to support individuals with disabilities and homeless veterans.

The Retail General Manager (GM) manages daily store operations, including production activities and the retail selling floor. Responsibilities include customer service, stocking, merchandising, inventory control, budgeting, and record keeping. The GM ensures production efficiency, housekeeping, safety standards, loss prevention, and merchandise flow. They define roles and responsibilities for direct reports, set performance expectations, provide training, and give feedback.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Two to three years of retail management experience supervising multiple departments and/or 15+ staff.
  • At least five years of retail or related industry experience.
  • Experience in selecting, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Full Profit & Loss ownership experience.
  • Proficiency in scheduling and managing staff.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Strong math and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the thrift and resale industry and competitive response.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, high integrity, respect, critical thinking, and diversity appreciation.
  • Ability to perform duties of direct reports.
  • Efficient in paperwork and reporting.
  • Good judgment in daily situations.
  • Flexible schedule including opening, closing, and peak hours.
  • Willing to work at other locations if needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

Oversees retail staff including Assistant Manager, Supervisors, and Associates.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Manage overall store operations, including opening and closing.
  • Oversee production and merchandise quality to maximize revenue.
  • Manage inventory levels.
  • Ensure safe donation processing adhering to standards and laws.
  • Handle staffing, hiring, training, and management per policies.
  • Supervise volunteers and temporary staff.
  • Complete reports like surveys, production, and sales on time.
  • Analyze profit/loss statements and adjust operations accordingly.
  • Manage daily banking and payroll processes.
  • Set staff schedules to meet store needs.
  • Maintain communication internally and externally.
  • Foster excellent customer service and resolve issues.
  • Enforce policies and standards.
  • Reduce turnover through proper training and motivation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in climate-controlled and non-controlled environments.
  • Perform walking, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing for up to 7 hours.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds with or without accommodations.
  • Work in moderate noise levels.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Perform computer-based tasks regularly.
