The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is hiring a Retail Food Safety Officer for the Saluda area to inspect food establishments such as restaurants, food trucks, grocery stores, markets, and schools to ensure proper sanitary practices.

As part of the duties, you will complete compliance inspections, report findings, conduct investigations, and provide programmatic guidance while collaborating with industry stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences or related field (e.g., Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Public Health).
• An associate's degree plus two years of environmental health experience OR a high school diploma plus four years of related experience may substitute for the degree.
• Valid state driver's license and ability to operate a motorized vehicle.

Responsabilités

• Complete compliance graded inspections of retail food service establishments and take actions to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Ensure foods are prepared, packaged, and marketed under safe sanitary conditions.
• Maintain QA/QC activities including proficiency testing and standardization.
• Provide detailed inspection reports and outline enforcement actions when needed.
• Conduct complaint investigations following SOPs and program guidance.
• Investigate suspected foodborne illness cases and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Provide programmatic consultation to food service personnel and other stakeholders.
• Perform pre-operational inspections and issue permits for new facilities.
