Responsibilities

  • Lead global engineering and value-engineering solutions across Non-Fuel Retail (NFR), including convenience shops, car wash, shop equipment, fixtures, materials, signage, and sustainable equipment solutions.
  • Develop and maintain global engineering design standards and playbooks for safe, scalable shop formats and NFR solutions.
  • Partner with marketing, suppliers, and delivery partners to optimize shop format design, branding, sourcing, construction, and total cost of ownership.
  • Translate convenience retail trends and customer insights into engineering solutions that improve performance and customer experience.
  • Support deployment of new shop formats, including pilot delivery, reference design principles, unit costing, and localization.

Shell is looking for a Retails Development & Construction Engineer (also known internally as Mobility & Convenience Engineering Non-Fuel Retail & Shop Expert). Shell Mobility & Convenience is looking for an experienced engineering expert to shape the future of our convenience retail network. As the CR Engineering Senior Expert - Store Development and Construction, you will bring deep convenience retail, shop-format, construction, and value-engineering expertise to help design, optimize, and deploy world-class Non-Fuel Retail solutions across Shell’s global mobility footprint. This is a high-impact subject matter expert techno-commercial role focused on shop formats, car wash, equipment, fixtures, partner delivery models, and scalable engineering standards. You will work closely with global marketing, local markets, suppliers, and delivery partners, and leverage deep external industry experience to create safe, customer-focused, commercially competitive solutions that support Shell’s ambition to grow convenience and mobility offerings globally.   • Lead global engineering and value-engineering solutions across Non-Fuel Retail (NFR), including convenience shops, car wash, shop equipment, fixtures, materials, signage, and sustainable equipment solutions. Expected to be Mobility & Convenience’s global expert on Zero Based Value Engineering development & principles, as well as asset strategy applied to shop/NFR
  • Develop, maintain, and assure fit for purpose global engineering design standards and playbooks that enable safe, scalable, industry leading cost-competitive, and customer-focused shop formats and NFR solutions. Provide clear design direction to markets and partners to enable localization, scalability and cost efficiency
  • Partner with global marketing, local market teams, suppliers, and delivery partners to optimize shop format design, branding, sourcing, construction, and total cost of ownership
  • Leverage and translate convenience retail trends, customer insights, and competitive benchmarking into engineering solutions that improve commercial performance and customer experience
  • Support the deployment of new shop formats and major format changes, including pilot delivery, reference design principles, unit costing, localization guidance, and replication across markets
  • Lead technical assurance and relationship management for global framework agreement partners supporting mobility shop and format delivery
  • Shape sourcing strategies for shop equipment, fixtures, and delivery partners, leveraging scale to improve quality, cost efficiency, and speed to market
  • Lead and support the population of market engineers involved in shop/NFR projects (detailed design, design, and execution). Build capability across market engineering teams by developing technical guidance, training materials, and accreditation support for shop and NFR design, maintenance, and construction
  • Develop engineering solutions that profitably reduce site energy consumption and emissions across Shell’s mobility network
  • Influence stakeholders in a global virtual environment, aligning engineering solutions with brand, customer experience, safety, sustainability, and commercial objectives
What You Bring
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, architecture, project management, or a related technical discipline
  • At least 8 years of relevant engineering, construction, project delivery, and/or convenience retail experience. Experience in the Oil industry is not a must
  • Hands-on experience delivering shop/store, convenience retail, car wash, or similar retail network construction or upgrade projects
  • Strong value-engineering mindset, with the ability to improve cost, quality, safety, scalability, and/or total cost of ownership
  • Experience working with contractors, suppliers, commercial partners, or framework agreement partners to deliver complex projects
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Visible leadership in health, safety, security, and environmental performance, with experience embedding safe ways of working through partner and supplier organizations
  • Strong project management capability, including the ability to lead multiple workstreams, manage competing priorities, and deliver through others
  • Curiosity, learning agility, and a practical “can-do” mindset, with the ability to use data, customer insight, and market intelligence to develop better solutions
Preferred Qualifications And Experience
  • Experience in the convenience retail, fuel retail, quick-service restaurant, car wash, or distributed retail construction environment
  • Civil, structural engineering or achitecture background, ideally with experience in design and site delivery
  • Experience developing or evolving design standards, store layouts, fixture strategies, equipment specifications, and fit-for-purpose construction solutions
  • Experience working in a global or multi-market environment, including adapting global standards to local market requirements
  • Experience supporting technical capability building, accreditation, or structured engineering assurance programs
  • Commercial acumen and experience linking engineering choices to customer experience, brand execution, revenue growth, cost efficiency, and operational performance
What We Offer

The base salary range for this position is $149,000 - $223,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
