Job summary

MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries is seeking an energetic Retail Cashier to join our OFallon, IL store team. The position is hourly full-time with a starting rate of $15.50 per hour and a monthly bonus potential.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, handling cash and card transactions, stocking, and maintaining store cleanliness while upholding company policies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, PTO, and employee discounts.

Qualifications

• No degree is required. High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and management.
• Must be organized and capable of interacting with a diverse work population.
• Necessary math skills include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and acknowledge them as they enter the store, assist on the sales floor, and answer the phone with a professional greeting within three rings.
• Operate the store cash register: cash handling, credit card transactions, process discounts/returns, and balance the till.
• Stock, straighten, rotate, and maintain cleanliness across the store area efficiently and to standard.
• Request assistance from managers for returns, exchanges, and customer complaints.
• Uphold store cleanliness standards by sweeping, dusting, mopping, and shining surfaces.
• Maintain positive relationships with team members and leadership and collaborate with other teams to enhance communication.
• Follow safe work practices and keep the workplace hazard-free.
• Adhere to MERS/Goodwill policies and safety regulations; present a professional appearance.
• All other duties as assigned.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Make customers a priority by greeting and acknowledging them as they enter the store, helping on the sales floor, and answering the phone within three rings with a professional greeting.
• Operates the store cash register: cash handling credit card transactions, appropriate discount returns, and cash register balancing.
• Stocks straighten, rotate, and maintain the cleanliness of the entire store area efficiently and to standard.
• Request assistance from managers for returns, exchanges, and customer complaints.
• Upholds store cleanliness standards by sweeping, dusting, mopping, and shining surfaces.
• Establishes and maintains positive and professional relationships with team members and leadership and works cross-functionally with other teams to increase communication.
• Utilizes safe work practices through awareness and observation.
• Contributes to ensuring the workplace is hazard-free by removing obstructions and keeping aisles and designated walkways debris-free.
• Maintain a professional appearance always, adhering to MERS/Goodwill's dress code.
• Safeguards agency assets, including cash, donated items, and purchased items, from harm, damage, or theft. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of agency assets.
• Must adhere to all MERS/Goodwill policies, Goodwill Retail procedures, and safety and security regulations.
• All other duties as assigned.
