General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures that customers have a positive shopping experience by greeting them, providing assistance, maintaining a clean and organized store, and supporting company brand standards. The Associate is expected to perform a range of duties across all store areas and may be asked to take on additional tasks to meet customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

• Maintain safety as the top priority, practicing safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Keep the sales floor clear and secure, ensuring easy egress to emergency exits.
• Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly hello.
• Assist customers at the register and in merchandise areas, answering questions and providing product knowledge.
• Respond promptly to customer service calls and resolve customer issues courteously, involving store leadership when necessary.
• Represent and support Ross’s brand at all times.
• Clean the store, including sweeping, mopping, dusting counters and mirrors, wiping high‑touch areas, and replenishing restroom supplies.
• Appear professional and adhere to the company dress code.
• Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and well‑merchandised.
• Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor per company best practices and monthly presentation guidelines.
• Understand loss prevention, Shortage Highway, and protecting merchandise.
• Guard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise with integrity.
• Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies, properly process items, and notify store leadership for approvals.
• Handle cash, check, charge card, refunds, voids, and offline processes with accuracy.
• Work efficiently, minimizing steps and touches in workflow to meet productivity goals.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

• Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

• Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
• Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
• Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
• Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
• Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
• Other assignments may require different qualifications and skills.
• Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is $15.00 – $15.50, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, education, and location. This range represents only a component of total compensation; additional rewards vary by position and location.

All full‑time associates, including FT Retail Associate, Area Supervisor, Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager, are eligible for extended benefits such as Medical/Dental/Vision Health Insurance, Legal Insurance, Vacation Buy, Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Account, Life/ADD Insurance, Long‑Term Disability, Enhanced Maternity and Parental Leave, Vacation Pay accrued at 10 days/year after eligibility commences, and 9 personal and company holidays. Associates (AS, ASM, SM) in stores and exempt corporate and buying office roles may also receive a performance‑based bonus.
