Job summary

Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. seeks an energetic individual for its Environmental Department in Elgin, IL, to assist with native plant identification, herbicide application, and mechanical management of wetlands, prairies, and lakes during the summer.

You will gain practical experience in native area management while contributing to outdoor habitat projects. The role offers full/part-time hours, outdoor work in variable weather, and opportunities to learn licensing procedures, with on-site

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Illinois Pesticide Applicator or Operators License required 60 days before employment (HLR assists with licensing fees).
• Experience communicating with residents or stakeholders.
• Enthusiastic, courteous, positive attitude and team spirit.

Responsibilities

• Work full time/part time, about 8–12 hours per day.
• Perform field work, herbicide application and mechanical control.
• Planting of live vegetation and trees, algae control, removal of trees/shrubs, litter pickup, erosion control blanket installation.

Are you an energetic individual with an ecology background? Are you ready to work in our Environmental Department for the summer where you can learn native plant identification, herbacide application and mechanical control of wetlands, prairies, lakes all while earning money and knowledge in the native area managment field?

RESPONSIBILITES:

• Work full time/part time, approximately 8-12 hours per day
  • Perform Field work, herbicide application and mechanical control (using brush cutters, mowers and hand tools).
• Live plant, shrub and tree installation, algae control applications, tree and shrub removal, litter pick up and seed erosion control blanket installation.
• Use power tools, trailers and motorized equipment to perform work

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have a valid drivers license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job the employee will frequently be walking on uneven surfaces and must be able to lift and or carry up to 40 pounds
• Ability to withstand a variety of extreme outdoor temperatures including cold, damp, heat, humidity, insects, pollen and wet conditions.
• Ability to carry backpacks weighing 25-40 pounds for extending periods of time. Occasional lifting of 50 pounds plus.
