Position Summary

The Enterprise Physical Operations, Infrastructure, Capital Programs & Real Estate (EPO) department at WashU provides integrated operational, infrastructure, planning, and facility services that support the university’s mission of excellence in education, research, patient care, and community engagement. Guided by the PRIDE+ Core Values of Professionalism & Planning, Respect & Responsibility, Integrity & Integration, Dedication & Delivery, Excellence & Enterprise Alignment, and Accountability & Stewardship, EPO fosters a culture of collaboration, strategic partnership, innovation, accountability, and service excellence across the university enterprise. EPO manages and supports 28 million gross square feet across 235+ buildings and associated infrastructure systems, encompassing academic, research, clinical, residential, administrative, and support facilities across the university’s campuses and operations. Our teams provide strategic leadership and operational expertise in facility management, infrastructure services, capital project delivery, real estate operations, planning, sustainability, engineering, maintenance, environmental services, public safety support, and enterprise operational services. EPO creates and maintains safe, innovative, efficient, mission‑driven environments that support our students, faculty, staff, patients, researchers, and community partners.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Respond and react as a team member to emergency and non‑emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, etc.) on campus. Take action or document safety and security issues, provide emergency management support during larger‑scale incidents, and patrol the University properties when not on assignment.
  • Receive and compile information for incident reports and conduct initial and follow‑up investigations, as directed by an RO II or Lead Officer.
  • Conduct building checks, including access control devices and door locks, proactively identifying potential safety or security hazards and using problem‑solving skills to resolve items found.
  • Provide necessary follow‑up (transportation to the medical facility, notification of proper authorities, and other coordination) for faculty, staff, students, and visitors after immediate resolution of an incident.
  • Assist Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions, provide escorts when requested, and partner with assigned geographical areas to resolve multi‑department issues.
  • May serve as an instructor for skills training and certifications.
  • Takes possession of found property, attempts to locate the owner, and secures property according to established procedure.
  • Enforces parking regulations and supports the Transportation Office as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications

Required: High school diploma or equivalent certification, or a combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Certifications & Licenses
  • St. Louis Metropolitan Security License (within 30 days of hire).
  • Must maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification for Taser, OC Spray, Collapsible Baton, and Handcuffs.
  • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) – CIT International.
  • Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT‑B) – Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services.
Experience
  • Officer in an academic or other professional environment (1 year).
  • Security Officer in a professional security organization (2 years).
