Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital, part of Catholic Health on Long Island, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to support adult, neonatal, and pediatric patients in acute care settings. Responsibilities include determining therapy appropriateness, educating patients, and assisting with critical decisions in emergencies.

The ideal candidate holds an A.S. in Respiratory Therapy, NYS licensure, and is credentialed (RRT/CRT) with BLS, PALS, and ACLS.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of AMA, JRCTE, or CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program with a minimum of an associate’s degree.
  • NYS Respiratory Therapist license
  • A credentialed RRT/CRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Experienced with all basic respiratory therapy modalities, mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, patient assessment and arterial blood gas collection/analysis.
  • BLS, PALS, and ACLS required- American Heart Association accepted only.
  • One year critical care experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ability to determine appropriateness of therapy and contacts physician to clarify or modify order when necessary
  • Able to provide verbal and written educational materials to patients when appropriate
  • Follows policy for documentation of critical values in the patient's medical record
  • Assists with patient care decision making by communicating with physicians, nurses and other health care team members and by making appropriate decisions as needed in emergency situations.
  • Provides airway care including the maintenance of a patent airway through intubation, tracheostomy care, clearance of airway obstructions and reversal of bronchospasms and inflammation of the airways. Extubates patients when appropriate and provides appropriate airway care following extubation
  • Provides care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations in the hospital intensive care, non-critical care areas and the emergency room.
  • Applies and maintains invasive and non-invasive ventilation systems to critically ill patients of all age groups
  • Draws blood samples and analyzes and interprets the results of blood tests.
  • Has ability to assemble and troubleshoot Respiratory Therapy equipment

Salary Range

USD $58.37 - USD $58.37 /Hr.
