Job summary

Ochsner Health in Jennings, LA is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care, oxygen services, diagnostics, and ventilation support for in-patients and out-patients from neonatal to geriatric ages.

Responsibilities include performing procedures, documenting patient data, educating staff and patients, and ensuring care aligns with physician orders and hospital policy. Requires active RT license, NBRC-RRT, BLS, and ACLS within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Care is required.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Current Respiratory Therapist license in the practicing state is required.
• NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist certification is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
• ACLS must be obtained within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced respiratory procedures according to policy and procedures.
• Review and document all clinical information for each patient.
• Educate patients and coworkers on procedures and treatment plans.
• Perform diagnostic procedures related to respiratory care.
• Provide patient care appropriate to age and clinical setting, with privacy and communication considerations.
• Adapt communication to the specific patient population and needs.

This job provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support services to both in-patients and out-patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The RT-CRT set-ups, monitors and weans Oxygen Therapy and Artificial ventilation. The RT-CRT draws, analyzes and reports Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs. The RT-CRT delivers intermittent therapy and assists with changing of artificial airways. The RT-CRT provides services as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Education

• Required - Associate's Degree

Work Experience

• Required - None.

Certifications

• Required - Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
• Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• ACLS obtained in 90 days

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.

Physical and Environmental Demands
