Job summary

Stilwell Nursing & Rehab is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care for residents in a health and rehabilitation setting. You will assess, treat, and monitor residents with cardiopulmonary conditions while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality resident-centered care.

You will educate residents, families, and staff on respiratory care procedures, review physician orders, and administer therapies

Qualifications

  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the applicable state.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate residents, families, and staff regarding respiratory care procedures and equipment use.
  • Assess residents’ respiratory status and review physician orders for respiratory care needs.
  • Administer respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen, aerosol, nebulizers, suctioning, and airway management.
  • Monitor residents receiving respiratory support and report changes promptly.
  • Assist with pulmonary rehabilitation and breathing treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation per policies and HIPAA.
  • Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, rehab teams, and other health professionals.

Position SummaryThe Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory care services to residents in a health and rehabilitation setting. This role assesses, treats, and monitors residents with cardiopulmonary and respiratory conditions while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality resident-centered care. The Respiratory Therapist supports clinical outcomes through respiratory education, treatments, compliance with healthcare regulations, and proactive resident monitoring.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResident Care & Respiratory ServicesEducate residents, families, and staff regarding respiratory care procedures and equipment useAssess residents’ respiratory status and review physician orders for respiratory care needsAdminister respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulizer treatments, suctioning, and airway managementMonitor residents receiving respiratory support and report changes in condition promptlyAssist with pulmonary rehabilitation and breathing treatment plansClinical Documentation & ComplianceMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirementsEnsure compliance with physician orders, infection control standards, and respiratory care protocolsParticipate in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings as neededMaintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with HIPAA regulationsMaintain all education documentation provided to staffEquipment & SafetyInspect, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipmentEnsure oxygen storage and respiratory equipment are maintained safely and according to regulationsFollow all safety procedures and emergency response protocols related to respiratory servicesCollaboration & CommunicationWork collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, rehabilitation teams, and other healthcare professionalsCommunicate resident status updates and respiratory concerns effectivelySupport staff education and training related to respiratory care servicesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of respiratory therapy practices, procedures, and equipmentStrong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skillsAbility to respond effectively in emergency situationsStrong organizational and documentation abilitiesCurrent Respiratory Therapist license/certification in the applicable stateCurrent CPR/BLS certification requiredPrevious experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or healthcare setting preferred
