Job summary

UPMC Magee‑Women's Hospital seeks a Respiratory Therapist (CRT or RRT) to join the Adult Respiratory Care Team. Under supervision, this role delivers diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care to adult patients according to physician orders and hospital policy.

We offer sign-on bonuses for qualified therapists: $15,000 for 0–1 year experience with a 2-year commitment; $20,000 for 1+ year experience with a 2-year commitment. Applicants are placed based on experience, license, and education.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory program.
• NBRC CRT certification and ongoing certification maintenance.
• Current BLS or CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders. Interprets clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives.
• Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment.
• Assists to transport mechanically ventilated patients. Responds to all code situations.
• Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Orders repairs when needed. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.
• Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine therapy requirements.
• Monitors patient responses to therapy and performs pulmonary function tests when indicated.
