Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift
Location: 2900 Lamb Cir, Christiansburg, VA
Employment Status: Full Time

Responsibilities

• Deliver therapeutic, diagnostic, and life‑support respiratory care in general, intensive patient care and home care settings.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for all ages.
• Complete age‑specific ongoing assessments; document findings and develop care plans.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop and implement interdisciplinary plans of care.
• Revise care plans in response to changes in patient status.
• Administer treatments and medications accurately and maintain documentation.
• Identify and address patient/family educational needs, incorporating them into the care plan.
• Participate in performance‑improvement programs to achieve desired outcomes.
• Engage in continuous professional development and complete annual competency validation.
• Advocate for patients, protecting their rights and providing psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Utilize growth and development knowledge to appropriately care for all patients served.
• Operate within clinical, leadership, or education pathways to support evidence‑based, high‑quality patient care.
• Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances, planning strategies to reduce length of stay and improve outcomes.
• Serve as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
• Manage resources, set priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
• Complete manager/director‑predetermined projects on time and per guidelines.
• Apply problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
• Assist in orienting new employees and provide feedback using appropriate communication.
• Participate in unit, hospital, or organizational activities that enhance staff involvement in decision making.
• Contribute to educational activities for the respiratory care department, other hospital departments, and the community.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a COARC‑approved school.
• Experience: Not required.
• Licensure: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Successful completion of orientation and competency validation for the position.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of employment; additional certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS) may be required within one year, depending on the area.

Compensation & Benefits

• Compensation Range: $30.47 – $45.71 per hour.
• Sign‑on Bonus: Up to $20,000.
