Job Summary
Location: Nebraska Methodist Hospital, 8303 Dodge Street, Omaha, NE.
Work schedule: Night shift, 6:30 pm–7:00 am, 36‑hour week with weekend, holiday, and call rotation.
Sign‑on bonus up to $25,000 and tuition reimbursement up to $10,000. Eligible for full‑time benefits.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex respiratory modalities independently.
- Demonstrate competency on all therapeutic modalities performed.
- Complete high‑risk/low‑volume skill checklist satisfactorily.
- Document procedures, assessments, interventions, and progress in patient records and the medical information system.
- Update patient care plans and goals to reflect appropriate needs.
- Develop and revise care plans to provide optimum patient outcomes.
- Receive and interpret physician orders.
- Evaluate patients in cooperation with attending physicians.
- Recommend care based on American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) clinical practice guidelines.
- Communicate regularly with the patient‑care team about status and progress.
- Communicate test results and unresolved issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain continuity of services for timely interventions.
- Assume charge responsibilities when a lead therapist is absent.
- Provide diagnostic procedures and ABGs for laboratory within scope of practice.
- Work within protocol guidelines and ensure appropriate therapy for all patients.
- Review protocol therapy for 95% of all patients.
- Flag charts for therapy changes.
- Assist the department in achieving a patient satisfaction rate above 95%.
- Provide information and assistance to patients and staff as needed.
- Support interdepartmental relations.
- Educate nursing and ancillary staff regarding respiratory care procedures.
Education
- Associate of Science in Respiratory Care required.
- Bachelor of Science with a certificate in Respiratory Care preferred.
Experience
- 3‑6 months of on‑the‑job experience to obtain knowledge of policies, procedures, and routines.
License/Certifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required within 12 months of acceptance.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.NE or RCP.IA) license for Washington State required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- For MH Respiratory Therapy, PALS required within 6 months of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills to relay accurate recommendations to the patient‑care team.
