Job summary

Corry Memorial Hospital is seeking a per diem Respiratory Therapist to administer respiratory therapy care and support to patients and perform diagnostic tests of the cardiopulmonary system to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders.

Qualifications

Respiratory Therapist

Corry Memorial Hospital is in search of a per diem respiratory therapist to administer respiratory therapy care and support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system and perform diagnostic tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders.

• Administers therapeutic respiratory care procedures according to hospital and department policies.
• Completes documentation that is required to measure, monitor, and ensure department effectiveness e.g., charting, billing, patient/family education.
• Performs diagnostic respiratory procedures according to hospital and department policies.
• Provides instruction to patients and other members of the healthcare team as needed.
• Schedules cardiopulmonary procedures for internal/external sources.
• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
• Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
• Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders. Interprets clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives.
• Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment functions safely and efficiently.
• Assists with the ordering of respiratory therapy equipment supplies for facility and for arterial blood gas analyzer.
• Monitors the supply and ordering of concentrated gasses for facility as needed.
• Assists to transport mechanically ventilated patients. Responds to all code situations.
• Maintains patient’s chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.
• Orders equipment repairs when needed.
• Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.
• Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication dosages. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician’s orders.
• Monitors patient’s physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. Performs pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case. Consults with physician in the event of adverse reactions.
• Responsible for durable medical equipment (DME) set-up for home oxygen and home nebulizer machines for patients prior to discharge from facility if needed.
