Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to administer diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to support patient breathing. You will evaluate care for effectiveness, document findings, and communicate with physicians and nurses.

The role may serve as charge therapist when the manager is absent. You will manage airway support, assist in intubation in emergencies where policy allows, and participate in RAT/RRT and trauma responses while prioritizing safety and high reliability

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in respiratory care required.
  • NBRC-RRT registry and Ohio license appropriate to role.
  • CPR certification and readiness for home care assignments where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Administers MDI, nebulization, oxygen therapy and ventilator support as prescribed.
  • Evaluates respiratory care for effectiveness; communicates results to staff.
  • Maintains airway management and observes patients during treatments.
  • Responds to STAT calls and participates in emergency and trauma activities.
  • Performs documentation, prepares equipment, and supports patient education.

Responsible for evaluating respiratory care for appropriateness and effectiveness and communicates findings/results to other health care professionals. This position may perform role of charge therapist in absence of manager/supervisor.Responsibilities And Duties:Maintains records and communicates informationAdministers MDI, medication nebulization, posture drainage, positive pressure breathing, mechanical ventilation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, etc.; observes patient during treatments; performs auscultation, checks pulse and respiratory rate; notifies Medical or Nursing Personnel of any adverse reactions; records pertinent data on patient charts; carries out interventions appropriate to patient age, sex, physical and developmental need.Prepares for patient treatment: receives orders from Physicians and Advanced Practice Practitioners for treatment; reviews requests to determine requirements for treatments; prioritizes work assignments; gathers necessary materials and equipment and transports to patient's bedside; prepares medications, explains treatment and breathing procedures to patient; follows protocols.Maintains the patient airway, including the use of artificial airway. Achieves adequate respiratory support for patient.
