Job summary

Meritus Health is seeking a Respiratory Practitioner to deliver care across ages, from newborns to seniors, in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will administer therapies, manage airway support, and contribute to life-saving interventions on Rapid Response, Code Blue, and Trauma Teams.

The role emphasizes patient-centered care, ongoing education for patients with chronic lung conditions, and collaboration with a skilled respiratory care team to stay at the forefront of care and technology.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (or equivalent).
• Licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians as a Respiratory Care Practitioner OR must obtain license within 90 days of hire.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert care including oxygen therapy, medications, and bronchial hygiene treatments.
• Provide airway maintenance and manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
• Assess patient conditions and tailor care plans for urgent respiratory needs.
• Educate patients on managing chronic lung conditions to improve quality of life.
• Serve on Rapid Response, Code Blue, and Trauma Teams in high-pressure situations.
• Assist with arterial blood gases, bronchoscopy support, and maintain equipment cleanliness.

What You’ll Do

• Deliver Expert Care – Administer oxygen therapy, medications, and bronchial hygiene treatments to help patients breathe easier and recover faster.
• Be a Critical Lifeline – Provide airway maintenance, including endotracheal intubation, and expertly manage mechanical ventilation (both invasive and non‑invasive).
• Assess & Act – Evaluate each patient’s condition and tailor care plans to address urgent and evolving respiratory needs.
• Educate & Empower – Teach patients how to manage chronic lung conditions, giving them the tools to improve their quality of life.
• Work at the Frontline of Emergencies – Serve on Rapid Response, Code Blue, and Trauma Teams, bringing calm expertise to high‑pressure situations.
• Support Specialized Procedures – Acquire and analyze arterial blood gases, assist with bronchoscopies, and ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained to the highest standard.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (or equivalent).
• Experience: Relevant experience in the field is preferred.
• Licensure: Licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians as a Respiratory Care Practitioner OR must obtain license within 90 days of hire. Current BLS certification required.
• Skills: Strong clinical judgment, ability to operate respiratory equipment safely and effectively, and comfort working across diverse patient populations.
