Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Extern - Graduate to assist in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. Provides designated clinical and/or support services.

The role includes airway clearance, suctioning, nebulizer therapies, oxygen therapy setup, and remote monitoring duties as part of a multidisciplinary team. Requires an Associate's Degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited school of respiratory care
• Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification

Responsibilities

• Assist with airway clearance, suctioning, nebulizer therapies, and oxygen therapy setup under supervision.
• Participate in the educational process related to healthcare delivery under supervision.
• Participate in discharge planning under supervision.
• Assist in managing the environment for care delivery under supervision.
• May assist with equipment and supply stocking, cleaning, and setup.
• Maintain professional development.
• Participate in achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
• Perform other responsibilities as required under supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.

The Respiratory Extern - Graduate at Northside Hospital participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assisting with assessing, implementing, planning, and evaluating patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. Provides designated clinical and/or support services.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists with the management of the ongoing process of respiratory care delivery to patients, incorporating age-related and developmental-specific requirements under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. This includes: airway clearance, suctioning, and nebulizer therapies as well as set up and adjustment of supplemental oxygen therapies, incentive spirometry, and remote monitoring duties.
2. Participates in the educational process related to the delivery of healthcare under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
3. Participates in the discharge planning process under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
4. Assists in the management of the environment for the delivery of care under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
5. May assist with equipment and supply stocking, cleaning, and set-up.
6. Maintains professional development.
7. Participates in the achievement of the organizational and departmental goals.
8. Performs other responsibilities as required under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
