Qualifications

• 3 years as an RRT, including 1 year in adult or pediatric critical care.
• SC license as Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
• RRT certification.
• BLS required; NBRC credentials maintained.
• AARC membership required.
• ACLS/NRP/FCCS/PALS depending on unit.
• Basic computer skills; data entry.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical patient care in adult acute/critical care, pediatric, ED, and trauma settings.
• Instruct and mentor staff in advanced skills and critical thinking.
• Direct shift assignments and plan workflow; assess staffing workload.
• Prepare staff assignments using EMR reports and redeploy as needed.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures and data interpretation.
• Document care and billing in EMR; ensure patient safety and outcomes.
• Lead education content and performance improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a Super User for advanced technology and competency assessment.

Job description

• Provide clinical patient care in adult acute and critical care, pediatric, emergency department, and trauma respiratory care settings
• Serve as a clinical and operational role model and resource
• Instruct, apply, and mentor staff in advanced technical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving strategies
• Direct and plan shift assignments and workflow
• Determine staffing workload needs using EMR staffing reports
• Prepare and distribute staff assignments using EMR reports
• Assess and redeploy staffing levels throughout the shift
• Assure appropriate staffing levels for the oncoming shift
• Perform basic and advanced cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures and calculations
• Collect and interpret data for patient assessment and care planning
• Assist healthcare professionals with interpretation and clinical application of results
• Monitor and evaluate patient care plans
• Communicate findings to physicians, coworkers, and nursing staff and recommend modifications
• Complete clinical documentation and billing in the hospital EMR before the end of shift
• Research evidence-based clinical and operational practices
• Report and correct patient safety issues and support Patient Occurrence Reporting System follow-up and action planning
• Assure standardized handoff between shifts
• Escalate safety and outcome issues to the Clinical Supervisor
• Assist with orientation and technical competency for staff, new hires, medical staff, nursing staff, and respiratory care students
• Contribute to education content, department policies and procedures, and Performance Improvement processes
• Serve as a Super User for advanced technology and document staff competency completion

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or another related field
• Graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or successor accrediting authority
• 3 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including 1 year at Prisma Health, working in Adult or Children's Hospital Critical Care
• Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• BLS required
• NBRC credentials must be maintained
• AARC Membership Required
• Certifications may include ACLS, NRP, FCCS, CAM class, or PALS depending on the unit
• Basic computer skills
• Data entry
• Bachelor's Degree or Specialty Certification/ECMO or Transport Team certification listed as an alternative qualification
