Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner I to provide skilled respiratory care to acutely ill patients across med/surg, ED and ICU settings. You will assess, plan, intervene and document patient care, work with a multidisciplinary team, and precept students, while upholding NM Ethics and compliance standards.

The role requires CRT or RRT, Illinois license, BLS, and completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program; neonatal and pediatric certifications are

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• Active or Pending Illinois Respiratory Care License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Preferred: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Preferred: Adult Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Responsibilities

• Competent in all adult med surg units in all respiratory therapies and modalities.
• Understands and implements adult respiratory protocols, policies, and guidelines on med surg units.
• Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy; adjusts frequencies as appropriate.
• Monitors, records and communicates patient condition to the healthcare team.
• Educates patients and/or families about respiratory disease management and resources.
• Competent in all adult care areas including med/surg, emergency department and critical care units; participates in hospital expectations.
• Responds to clinical emergencies.
• Participates in multidisciplinary rounds; collaborates with the healthcare team.
• Evaluates and utilizes respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes, research, and best practices.
• Precepts students.
• Promotes teamwork and adherence to NM Code of Professionalism.
