Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, invites aspiring respiratory care students to join the Respiratory Team as a Respiratory Care Assistant. This PRN role is designed for students currently enrolled in a respiratory school program, with pay of $20/hr for less than 1 year experience and $21/hr for more than 1 year.

Gain hands-on experience alongside physicians and nurses in a top Missouri hospital, with flexible scheduling to accommodate school curriculum and opportunity for ongoing

Qualifications

• Under supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides basic routine patient care activities within respiratory care guidelines.
• Ensures safety, developmental appropriateness, and regulatory compliance while delivering care.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures.
• Recognizes abnormal findings and seeks assistance as needed.
• Communicates and documents information and collaborates with the healthcare team.
• Maintains equipment per manufacturer standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides basic routine patient care activities in the general care areas related to respiratory care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the hospital and department. Ensures care provided is safe, effective, developmentally and age appropriate while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives. Provides cleaning, processing and general maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs various basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in the general care areas according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies.


• Recognizes and seeks assistance with abnormal findings and/or changes in patient status to other healthcare team members.


• Effectively communicates by participating in the exchange of information including documentation, handoff and works collaboratively with the healthcare team.


• Holds self-accountable and seeks out opportunities for continuous learning and feedback and is able to prioritize and apply effective time management.


• Processes equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.
