Qualifications

• Licensure as Respiratory Therapist (RRT/RCP) in-state or state of practice.
• NBRC-CRT or NBRC-RRT certification must be current.
• ACLS, BCLS and PALS certifications must be obtained within stated deadlines.
• Experience delivering respiratory care to adult and geriatric inpatients.

Responsibilities

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Lead Therapist delivers the care of a patient population of primarily adult and geriatric people who are acutely ill and have medially complex needs, which result in mobility and activities of daily living deficits. The Lead Therapist is a Respiratory Therapist who manages Respiratory Services and serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The Lead Therapist assesses the needs of the department and is familiar with the pulmonary status of all patients on the department’s service. Is a resource for or develops and implements a treatment plan, monitors effectiveness of the treatment plan, and implements needed changes. The Lead Therapist serves as a liaison between the department and the multidisciplinary team. The Lead Therapist and Nursing staff work as a team in association with the patient’s physician, the department Medical Director, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to assure timely, safe, and cost-effective therapy is being delivered. These tasks are carried out according to hospital policy, hospital mission, Performance Improvement Plan, and the policies and mission of Respiratory Care Services.

What you will do in this role:

• Apply respiratory care modalities and procedures to a group of patients. Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other disciplines as required and adjusts the plan of care as necessary to ensure optimal service.
• Effectively identify predictable problems and plans assigned tasks as needed.
• Recognizes changes in patient condition and initiates activities to facilitate appropriate responses.
• Communicates the patient’s condition and/or change to appropriate staff and/or physician, as needed.
• Ensure appropriate delivery of cardiopulmonary/patient care for a group of patients according to policy and procedure.
• Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.
• Prioritizes and plans all work steps to ensure success; considers time, supplies and support required from other individuals and departments in setting up work plan and completing duties.
• Provides pertinent shift report to other members of the team.
• Participates and facilitates in the case management process and cost containment for patients.
• Makes appropriate referrals upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
• Considers all available options and makes appropriate decisions.
• Assists in the containment of hospital costs through appropriate use of supplies, recovery of patient charges, and conservation of supplies.
• Assists in the evaluation of patients for appropriate level of care and communicates with others on health care team.
• Communicates pertinent information regarding patient’s progress and discharge planning needs to appropriate hospital and medical staff.
• Evaluates patient progress in light of the plan of care and coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes.
• Cooperates with other personnel to achieve Department objectives and maintain good employee relations and collaborative integration of the health care team.
• Maintains harmonious relationship with staff members, providing support and assistance to ensure quality customer service.
• Demonstrates attitude of cooperation and professionalism.
• Demonstrates flexibility in working hours and days scheduled in order to meet needs of the department.
• Seeks and accepts input from Directors/ Supervisors regarding interpersonal relationships that affect the department’s harmony and serviceability.
• Demonstrates accountability for direct patient care and evaluation of patient outcomes.
• Follows established procedures for all treatments, performance of procedures, and medication administration.
• Assures the patient treatment plan is followed.
• Implements prescribed treatments accurately and in timely manner.
• Evaluates patient response/outcomes to procedures performed, treatments, medication administration and other aspects of the treatment plan.
• Recognizes changes in patient condition and initiates activities to facilitate appropriate responses.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
• (NBRC-CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist, or (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist
