Summary

Responsible for the treatment, care, and management of patients with deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardio-respiratory system. Acts as a clinical resource in all areas of patient care and contributes to the overall quality of patient care.

Position Responsibilities

1. Performs assessment of patients and develops their respiratory plan of care.
2. Administers treatments/medications as prescribed by the physician.
3. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of invasive and non-invasive ventilator care.
4. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of the Blood Gas Laboratory.
5. Teaches and reinforces education on disease process, treatment, and wellness to patient and/or family and the community at large.
6. Sets up, operates, and maintains medical gas and airway humidification systems.
7. Interacts/interface with computer information management systems to document patient care activities.

Required Education and Certifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved program in Respiratory Care with an Associate’s Degree.
• Registered as a Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care or Certified Respiratory Therapist with 10 years’ experience.
• BLS credential.
• Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care.
