Job summary

Columbia Forest Products, North America’s largest hardwood plywood and veneer manufacturer, is seeking an entry-level team member for the Drying area. You will be trained to feed the dryer, stack veneer correctly, and perform quality checks while rotating through related duties.

The role requires following detailed instructions, lifting up to 40 lbs, and maintaining a strong safety record in a fast-paced plant with rotating tasks and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Entry level computer skills; auto grading mentioned.
  • Must work from detailed instructions; makes minor decisions.
  • Regularly handle lightweight materials; occasional heavier material.

Responsibilities

  • Feeding the dryer per standard work to prevent plug-ups.
  • Rotate to different job duties and assist in machine operations.
  • Grade and stack veneer properly for full utilization.
  • Remove trash from loads on dryer stackers.
  • Follow written and verbal job instructions; provide feedback and use critical thinking.
  • Maintain personal safety equipment usage in a moving, noisy manufacturing environment.

Job description

Ability to flex to other roles as needed to help the flow of material through the Drying process.

· TPMs are a part of every position in the mill. This may include mandatory overtime for completion of TPM tasks.

· Additional duties as assigned.

SAFETY:

· Position is exposed to several moving chains, sprockets, and belts. Hands should be kept clear of any unguarded nip point and incidences should be reported to the dryer tender or leadman immediately.

· Position should complete LOTO training.

· Safety glasses, hearing protection, and area appropriate gloves must be worn.

· Ability to lift at minimum 25 lbs.

· Because of the potential for fire, the area should be kept as clean as possible.

QUALITY:

· Proper feeding of the dryer is essential to preventing plug-ups.

· Position must be fed per the standard work.

· The veneer must be graded properly and stacked neatly to provide full utilization and proper panel construction.

· Removes trash from loads on dryer stackers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School Diploma or GED.

· Entry Level Computer Skills. (Auto Grading)

· Position must be able to work from detailed instructions. This individual makes minor decisions.

· Regular work with lightweight materials is involved, but occasional work with moderate weight materials may also be required.

· Position requires continuous mental and visual attention, and the individual usually works in short, repetitive cycles.

Successful candidates must be able to work in various jobs which can include rotating to different job duties. These job duties could include various machine operators, handling material, grading material, quality checks, clean up, and other similar manufacturing activities. This position requires you to follow written and verbal job instructions. Being able to provide feedback and apply critical thinking are other keys to this position. Employees must be able to use personal safety equipment while working in a manufacturing environment that includes moving machinery, fast paced fork lift traffic, machine noise, and a work environment that will vary depending on the time of the year.
