Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is hiring a Head Start Resource Aide to collaborate with classroom teachers and support children in achieving developmental goals. You will assist with instruction, help manage routines, and ensure the safety and well-being of participants in the program.

Ideal candidates bring passion for early childhood education, prior experience with special needs children, and strong communication and listening skills to engage with children, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• Interest in the well-being and education of young children.
• Some prior experience working with special needs children.
• Ability to clearly communicate and listen to children, parents/guardians, and Y associates.
• Obtained a 90 hour child care certification or willingness to do so upon hire.
• A high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom or individualized instruction to support learning goals.
• Support the teacher in managing classroom schedules, routines, and transitions.
• Ensure health, welfare, and safety of children in the program.
• Contribute to an environment fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development.
• Work with economically disadvantaged children to prepare for school success.

How this role contributes to the Y’s mission:

As a Y Head Start Resource Aide, you will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide classroom or individualized instruction as needed to support the goals and objectives of the children in your classroom. You will be a resource to children with special needs or individualized plans. You will support the teacher in managing classroom schedules, routines and transitions. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program. You will contribute to the creation of an environment which fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in your care. As a Y Head Start Resource Aide, you’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by working with our littlest participants who are economically disadvantaged and help them prepare for success in school and life.
