Job summary

Community and Family Resources seeks a Counselor provider for substance abuse and gambling treatment on our Adult Women\'s Residential Unit. You will conduct intake assessments, develop treatment plans, and facilitate individual, family, and group sessions, collaborating with the Program Director and referral sources to coordinate care.

Requirements include a Bachelor\'s or Master\'s in social/behavioral sciences and CADC/IADC (or reciprocity) with commitment to certification.

Qualifications

  • Degree requirements: Bachelor's or Master's in social/behavioral sciences; 3 years of full-time substance use/gambling treatment experience can substitute.
  • Desire to pursue CADC/IADC per Iowa standards; certification required after hire.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CFR 42, and related confidentiality rules.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake and assessments, prepare results and recommendations.
  • Develop and coordinate treatment plans with clients and referral sources.
  • Lead individual, family, and group sessions aligned with treatment plans.
  • Provide education and prevention community outreach.
  • Maintain client records and ensure compliance with agency policies.

Job description

Community and Family Resources is currently seeking a Counselor provider substance abuse and gambling treatment services to the patients on our Adult Women's Residential Unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Intake/assessment:
    • Assists clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents.
    • Conducts individual assessment sessions for completion of psychosocial histories of clients.
    • Participates with Program Supervisor in development of recommendations for clients.
    • Prepares and distributes assessment results, reports, etc. as required and requested.
    • Assists in other assessment processes as required and requested.
  • Support services:
    • Assists individuals and families in the intervention process through educational and planning sessions and, when feasible, participates in the interventions.
    • Maintains appropriate client and pre-client case records.
    • Provides clients and families with referral resources for the services not provided by the agency or when agency services are inappropriate.
    • Provides training for agency staff in areas of own expertise.
  • Treatment services:
    • Provides client orientation to treatment services.
    • Assists in the development, coordination, and evaluation of treatment program.
    • Conducts individual and family sessions consistent with treatment plans.
    • Develops and coordinates individual treatment plans with client, Program Director, and referral sources.
    • Facilitates groups as required and provides follow-up services.
    • May be asked to act as Program Supervisor’s designee in interviewing each client before admission in order to preview all intake data with client.
  • Community education and prevention:
    • Participates in coordination of community awareness programs concerning substance use and problem gambling.
    • Provides community education about substance use and problem gambling when consistent with program philosophy and personal expertise.
Schedule:
  • Type: Full-time
  • Tuesday-Saturday- Counselor- 9a-5p w/1- late night (11a-7p)
Education and Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited educational institution, preferably in the social or behavioral sciences is required. Three years of experience as a full-time substance use and/or gambling treatment counselor can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • CADC or IADC in Iowa or state that has reciprocity or be seeking a certification. Upon hire, is a requirement of the position that the employee will seek certification as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) and subsequently as an International Alcohol & Drug Counselor (IADC), as soon as the person can meet the qualifications per the Iowa Board of Certification standards.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of substance use and problem gambling treatment.
  • Knowledge of the psychosocial aspects of substance use and problem gambling.
  • Knowledge of the principles or recording and report writing.
  • Knowledge of 42CFR and how it applies to Community & Family Resources.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of CARF and IDPH licensure standards.
  • Knowledge of public/private welfare, health care, and substance use/gambling treatment agencies available in the area served by the agency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, regularly, and fluently in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or agency employees.
  • Ability to apply previous experience and training to the provision of problem gambling and substance use treatment services.
  • Ability to establish good working relationship with clients and staff,
  • Ability to secure appropriate information by direct and collateral interviews,
  • Ability to analyze problems presented, to bring agency/community resources to bear within policies and regulations, and to develop and implement effective courses of action.
  • Skill in client evaluation, therapeutic planning, and integrating best practices into the therapeutic milieu.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful events personally and professionally.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate Quality Assurance practices within the department.
  • Ability to use a computer including internet software, spreadsheet software, word-processing software, and electronic health record.
