Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN is seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Technician to support residential addiction programs within the Psychiatry department. The role includes direct and indirect patient care, promoting engagement in treatment plans, and ensuring safety and therapeutic milieu.

Responsibilities include leading social activities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and participating in care plans for adults and/or children.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health or behavioral assistant working with adults and/or children -OR- completion of 12 college credits preferred.
• Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task under stressful situations.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with interdisciplinary members while maintaining patient/family centeredness and safety.

Responsibilities

• Support Residential Addiction programs and may float to additional residential programs within the Psychiatry department.
• Promote involvement in treatment programs and ensure safety and milieu maintenance.
• Lead social activities, games and crafts to engage patients in milieu and therapy concepts.
• Provide direct and indirect patient care under supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

Addictions treatment programs at Mayo Clinic take an individualized holistic approach within a respectful, professional environment. Patients are treated by multidisciplinary care teams which ensures each patient receives comprehensive treatment that addresses his or her alcohol and/or other substance abuse, emotional health, and spiritual wellbeing. This position supports Residential Addiction programs and may float to additional residential programs within the Psychiatry department. Additionally, this position supports coverage to the Outpatient Addictions Programs for adults age 18 or older for treatment of alcohol and drug use problems-including illegal drugs, options, and other prescription medications.

The Psychiatric Technician isanintegralmemberofthepsychiatric residential, hospital-based psych emergency services team and participates in both direct and indirect patient care for adults and children. At the direction of a registered nursethePsychiatric Technician promotesinvolvementinthetreatment program. Psychiatric Technicians assist residents in various social, clinical, nutritional, and observational activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a safe patient milieu. The Psychiatric Technician role plays a crucial role in ongoing safety observation, assessment of the milieu and identification of escalation of concerning behaviors. The Psychiatric Technician plays a key role in leading social activities, games and crafts that promote patients to engage in milieu and practice therapy concepts they are learning within individualized care plans.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. At least 21 years of age.

Additional Qualifications:

Experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health or behavioral assistant working with adults and or children -OR- completion of 12 college credits preferred. Experience with 24/7 residential programs or psychiatry & psychology-based programs preferred.

Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in stressful and ambiguous situations. Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft office suite and or competency with electronic clinic documentation. Demonstrates ability to multi-task under stressful situations. Demonstrates ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with interdisciplinary members while maintaining patient/family centeredness and safety in a timely, efficient, and equitable manner.

Other required training (first aid, food safe, comorbid disorders, trauma informed care is offered after hire and must be completed within first 90 days of employment.

As a condition of employment, individuals working with addictions services must be free from problematic substance use for a minimum of the immediately preceding two years at time of hire.

License or Certification:

Valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record as defined by policy.

If a candidate does not currently have their Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross the Basic Life Support, certification will be included as part of the orientation program. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
