Job summary

Abraxas Youth & Family Services is seeking a compassionate Residential Service Worker (RSW) to support individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges in a residential setting. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote independence, wellness, safety, and quality of life.

As essential personnel, you may report to work in all weather and emergency conditions while contributing to person-centered care and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, or behavioral health challenges preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meals, hygiene, and housekeeping.
  • Support independence and personal goal achievement.
  • Encourage confidence and personal growth.
  • Help individuals engage in community activities and relationships.
  • Provide guidance and skill-building to foster independence.
  • Document services and observations in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team; participate in trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We are seeking a Residential Service Worker (RSW) to join our team and provide high-quality support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges.

As a valued member of our interdisciplinary clinical team, you will play a critical role in promoting the independence, wellness, safety, and overall quality of life of the individuals we serve. Through compassion, collaboration, and person-centered care, our Residential Service Workers help create supportive environments where individuals can thrive.

Please Note: Residential Service Workers are considered essential personnel and are required to report to work and are authorized to travel in all weather and emergency conditions.

Position Summary

The Residential Service Worker provides direct support and assistance to individuals in a residential setting, helping them develop life skills, maintain their health and well-being, and actively participate in their communities. The RSW works collaboratively with colleagues and care teams to ensure a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for all individuals served.

Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, or behavioral health challenges preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
Professional Requirements
  • Complete and maintain all trainings, certifications, and competencies required by the organization, regulatory agencies, and contracting entities
  • Successful completion of a drug screening
Key Responsibilities
Direct Care & Support
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including:
    • Meal preparation
    • Housekeeping and household tasks
    • Personal hygiene and grooming
  • Support individuals in maximizing independence and achieving personal goals
  • Encourage self-confidence, hope, and personal growth
  • Help individuals build meaningful relationships and engage in community activities
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and skill-building opportunities that foster greater independence
Safety & Wellness
  • Promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and person-centered environment
  • Monitor for potential crisis situations and respond appropriately in accordance with established policies and best practices
  • Assist in maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of individuals served
  • Support medication administration as permitted and assigned
  • Report any concerns of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mistreatment according to organizational policies
Documentation & Communication
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of services, activities, and observations
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times
Team Collaboration
  • Work cooperatively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality services
  • Participate in trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to stressful situations may occur
  • May encounter verbal or physical aggression and must respond professionally and safely
