Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily program schedules and promote a therapeutic, supportive milieu.
  • Provide social and emotional support using Trauma-Informed and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Complete shift reports and interdepartmental communications to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor visitor access, participant passes, and medication self-administration.
  • Transport participants to activities, appointments, and approved outings.
  • Facilitate family meetings, tele-psych, clinicians, and group/individual sessions.

Job Title: Residential Support Staff I/II

Department: Recovery & Reentry

General Functions:

The Residential Support Staff plays a vital role on a multidisciplinary care team, providing essential support to participants throughout their recovery journey in a residential treatment setting. This position focuses on facilitating skill development, offering direct support within the milieu, and maintaining a safe, structured environment that promotes healing and growth. Working in partnership with our people, Support Staff apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented practices to develop opportunities that fulfill our endless potential. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and dedication to fostering personal growth and resilience through consistent, supportive, and strength-based interactions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Residential Support Staff I

Monitor day-to-day program schedules and promote a therapeutic, supportive milieu culture and environment.

Provide social and emotional support to participants using Trauma-Informed and Motivational Interviewing techniques.

Complete required documentation including shift reports and interdepartmental communications to ensure continuity of care.

Monitor and control visitor access, participant passes, and medication self-administration per Recovery Services protocols.

Transport participants to scheduled activities, case management services, appointments, and approved outings.

Facilitate participant meetings with family, tele-psych, clinicians, and support seamless facilitation of groups and individual sessions.

Attend scheduled off-campus activities supporting program goals including fishing, hiking, skiing, canoeing, and berry picking.

Document all medical appointments, referrals, and medication transactions according to program policies and procedures.

Communicate participant behavioral or emotional presentations to the treatment team and facilitate verbal de-escalation when necessary.

Support participants and staff in meeting health and safety standards per CITC policies and procedures.

Assist in commercial kitchen environment and support food service for participants when appropriate.

Maintain respectful relationships with participants, former participants, family members, and peers in accordance with HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2.

Model professional, respectful, caring, and calm demeanor in all interactions while promoting program rules and expectations.

Maintain assigned areas and surrounding offices in clean, organized condition.

Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Residential Support Staff II

Perform all duties and responsibilities of Residential Support Staff I with an advanced level of proficiency.

Support case management efforts and coordinate with treatment team on participant care plans.

Coordinate training and in-services for Residential Support Staff to enhance team capabilities.

Aid in onboarding and training of new Support Staff to ensure program consistency.

Job Specifications:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability in conducting individual and group sessions.

Proficient with computers including word processing, email communication, internet resources, spreadsheets, and case management systems.

Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities with strong time management skills to handle multiple deadlines.

Excellent judgment, decision making, and critical thinking skills in dynamic environments.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to be cross-trained in all aspects of the program.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.

Expected to protect participant privacy in accordance with CITC policies and federal/state law requirements.

Minimum Core Competencies:

Minimum Qualifications:

Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Valid Alaska driver's license and insurable under CITC's automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver's license for at least three years.

Alaska Food Handlers Card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

CPR certified or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire.

Residential Support Staff I

High School Diploma or GED.

One (1) year of professional and supervised social service or related work experience, preferably in a residential behavioral health setting or similar environment. A combination of education and experience with major coursework in counseling, psychology, social sciences, or related fields may substitute.

Residential Support Staff II

High School Diploma or GED.

Two (2) years of professional and supervised social service or related work experience, preferably in a residential behavioral health setting or similar environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree, college coursework, or bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, or related field.

Three (3) years of professional and supervised social service or related work experience in a residential behavioral health setting.

Experience working in a milieu and/or residential treatment setting.

Training in and experience using Motivational Interviewing techniques.

Experience in substance use or mental health treatment services.

Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and moving.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.

May involve use of office equipment, tools, and other equipment as necessary. Possible bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
