Job summary

Youth Opportunity is seeking a Residential Shift Supervisor for Lebanon Youth Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. The role involves leading facility operations during assigned shifts and ensuring a safe, structured environment for youth. A minimum of three years’ residential youth experience and supervisory exposure are preferred.

Responsibilities

Pay: Up to $20.00/hr
Schedule: Must be available to work assigned shifts and occasional extended, evening, weekend, or on-call hours based on facility needs.

About Youth Opportunity & Lebanon Youth Academy

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at‑risk youth. Lebanon Youth Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee offers an 18‑bed trauma‑informed Youth Academy for boys ages12 to17. Serving youth needing structured treatment and emotional support, the center combines individual, family, and group therapy with academic programming, restorative justice, life skills training, and social skill development.

Youth typically remain for 3 to6months, engaging in victim‑impact awareness, pre‑vocational preparation, and family involvement. Programming is conducted in small group living units to support reintegration into home and community settings.

About the Role

The Residential Shift Supervisor oversees facility operations and supervises assigned personnel during the designated shift. This position provides leadership and direction to employees, coordinates daily responsibilities, ensures policies and procedures are followed, and supports a safe, structured, and consistent environment for youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned personnel by making and monitoring work assignments, evaluating performance, providing training and corrective instruction, and conducting individual or group meetings as needed.
  • Maintain communication with facility leadership regarding employee attendance, behavior, performance, and interactions with coworkers and youth.
  • Assist with developing work schedules, distributing responsibilities, and arranging additional personnel when needed to maintain effective facility operations.
  • Coordinate youth appointments and transportation as needed.
  • Assist with admission and discharge procedures, including receiving and releasing personal property, conducting required searches, and completing necessary documentation.
  • Work cooperatively with other facility employees to share relevant information regarding youth behavior, supervision, needs, and services.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, facility procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable state rules and regulations.
  • Conduct and oversee required safety checks, room searches, and scheduled searches for prohibited items.
  • Monitor electronic door locks, security communication devices, youth activities, and approved visitations.
  • Ensure the facility’s behavior-management system is implemented consistently and appropriately.
  • Review disciplinary actions involving youth, address grievances, and assist with resolving complaints as needed.
  • Review and investigate reports involving physical interventions, restraints, uses of force, and other unusual incidents.
  • Administer medication when properly trained and authorized and maintain complete and accurate medication documentation.
  • Regularly inspect housing units and program areas, identify concerns, and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare reports regarding maintenance, youth behavior, safety, staffing, and facility operations.
  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and conducting employee training as requested.
  • Respond to facility problems and emergencies, including when assistance is required from off-duty status.
  • Coordinate youth and employee responses during emergencies, including fires, severe weather, medical emergencies, and other critical incidents.
  • Assist other facility departments and operational areas as needed.

Other Duties Include

  • Maintain a high standard of professional and role-model behavior for youth.
  • Participate in required training and professional development.
  • Report any acts, incidents, or conditions that may indicate inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
  • Report all physical interventions, uses of force, and unusual incidents according to YOI and customer‑agency requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working with children or adolescents experiencing serious emotional disturbances or substance-use concerns in a residential setting is required. Previous supervisory experience in a related setting is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of chemical dependency, substance use, and the effects of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse on youth.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, direct, and monitor employees.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with youth and handle sensitive situations professionally and diplomatically.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, facility leadership, probation officers, caseworkers, law‑enforcement and court personnel, youth, families, and members of the public.
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and with varying abilities and needs.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility and participate in youth activities.
  • Ability to transport youth or employees when required.
  • Ability to complete required physical-intervention training and pass all related practical and written certification examinations.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable health and communicable‑disease requirements.

Other Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets organizational requirements.
  • Must satisfy all applicable state, local, contractual, criminal‑background‑check, and drug‑screen requirements.
  • Must be able to work occasional extended, evening, weekend, or on‑call hours based on facility needs.
