Job summary

Blackdog Builders, Inc. is seeking an experienced Residential Remodeling Design Consultant to work directly with homeowners from the first conversation through the design and sales process, turning ideas into a sold remodeling project.

You will blend residential design talent with strong relationship-building and sales skills, using CAD tools such as Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or 20/20 Design.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of residential design, remodeling, and/or related sales experience.
• Ability to sell high-value projects, products, or services.
• Strong residential design skills and basic understanding of residential construction.
• Industry accreditation CKD, CBD, or CGR.
• Experience with CAD/design software such as Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or 20/20 Design.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to listen, ask great questions, and translate a client's ideas into a project.

Responsibilities

• Meet with homeowners to understand their needs, style, priorities, and budget.
• Create residential remodeling designs that balance function, aesthetics, budget, and constructability.
• Build strong client relationships and guide homeowners through the design and sales process.
• Present designs, recommendations, and proposals to help clients confidently decide.
• Work with clients to make selections of products such as cabinets, counters, plumbing fixtures, doors and windows.
• Partner with our Estimator to review scope and pricing, supporting design focus.
• Translate the final design, scope, and pricing into clear, professional agreements for client approval.
• Collaborate with drafters, project managers, carpenters, and other Blackdog team members to bring projects from concept to construction.
• Keep clients and teammates informed and projects moving forward.

Blackdog Builders is looking for an experienced Design Consultant to join our team!

This isn't a position where you sit behind a desk and simply create designs. Our Design Consultants work directly with homeowners from the first conversation through the design and sales process — listening to what they want, creating thoughtful remodeling solutions, and helping them feel confident moving forward with Blackdog to make those ideas a reality. We're looking for someone who brings together residential design talent, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to sell.

What You’ll Do

• Meet with homeowners to understand their needs, style, priorities, and budget.
• Create residential remodeling designs that balance function, aesthetics, budget, and constructability.
• Build strong client relationships and guide homeowners through the design and sales process.
• Present designs, recommendations, and proposals in a way that helps clients confidently make decisions.
• Work with clients to make selections of products such as cabinets, counters, plumbing fixtures, doors and windows, etc.
• Partner with our Estimator, who reviews project scope and develops pricing for the remodeling portion of your projects — giving you the support to focus on great design and the client relationship.
• Translate the final design, scope, and pricing into clear, professional agreements for client approval.
• Collaborate with our drafters, project managers, carpenters, and other members of the Blackdog team to bring projects from concept to construction.
• Keep clients and teammates informed and projects moving forward.

Who We’re Looking For

Someone who can design AND sell.

Ideally, you bring:

• 5+ years of residential design, remodeling, and/or related sales experience.
• A proven ability to sell high-value projects, products, or services.
• Strong residential design skills and a basic understanding of residential construction.
• Industry accreditation in the remodeling or kitchen and bath industry such as CKD, CBD, or CGR
• Experience with CAD/design software such as Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or 20/20 Design.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to listen, ask great questions, and translate a client's ideas into a project they want to move forward with.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• The ability to work independently while also being a true team player.

Chief Architect experience is a definite plus!

Compensation

This position offers significant earning potential for someone who can successfully combine residential design with consultative sales. Successful Blackdog Design Consultants have the opportunity to earn $150,000+ annually. The position begins with a training-period base salary and transitions to a commission-driven compensation plan following successful completion of training. We’ll walk you through the details of the compensation structure and earning opportunity during the interview process.
