Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is hiring Residential Helpers to assist drivers with servicing customers and hauling waste or recycling to disposal sites. This role involves physically demanding daily tasks and customer interactions on a route-based schedule.

Expect to load and unload materials, maintain truck cleanliness, and comply with safety policies. Evening and weekend shifts may be required to meet service needs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and speak English.
• Waste industry experience preferred.
• Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs frequently.
• Valid driver's license (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers, in a safe and compliant way, by emptying trash/recycling containers into truck and hauling to disposal site.
• Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-600 times per day, depending on the assigned route.
• Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area.
• Clean up waste spills and overflows.
• Work with multiple drivers depending on workloads.
• Operate packing mechanism and various lever/handles on truck to activate lifting/loading mechanism.
• Assist Driver in safely backing up the truck by directing the Driver from outside the truck.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness of truck as needed.
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service.
• Manually load bulk items as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Ability to learn and understand truck mechanics
• Good written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business
• Must be able to read and speak English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• Waste industry experience preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
