Ruby's Place dba Restorative Pathways is seeking a Residential Advocate (On-Call Alameda & Solara) in Oakland, CA. This 100% in-person, non-exempt role supports shelter operations for individuals with histories of trafficking or domestic violence, and assists Case Management with trauma-informed, client-centered services.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in social services or enrollment in a similar program; experience may substitute education.

• Understanding of abusive relationship dynamics and survivor-centered approach.

• State-mandated 40-hour DV counselor certification (can be arranged after hiring).
• Able to lift 25 lbs; valid CA driver’s license with insurance; driving agency vehicles may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide shift coverage for RP shelter operations for at-risk individuals.
• Support Case Management staff; on-call with minimum one 8-hour shift every other month.
• Monitors facility areas, screens potential clients, transports clients when needed.
• Do general maintenance, stock inventory, and provide clerical support.
• Deliver confidential, trauma-sensitive, client-centered services.
• Greet residents, provide tours, assist with room orientation.
• Participate in RP meetings and training; complete timesheets on time.

Ruby's Place dba Restorative Pathways (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, substance recovery, and wrap-around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. All programs are low-barrier.

• Holding an Associate’s degree in social services or enrolled in a similar program at an accredited four year College/University. Experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
• Experienced in crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and client advocacy.
• Experienced working in a domestic violence and or homeless setting providing direct services.
• Understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and a commitment to preventing violence in the home.
• Knowledgeable of Trauma Informed Care as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations.
• Certified in the state mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence counselor certification. Can be arranged after hiring.
• Able to lift 25 lbs.
• In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles. If a staff member cannot be approved by RP insurance as a driver, employment might not be able to continue. Instances where staff cannot be approved to drive will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine if employment can continue in their role without driving agency vehicles. Items considered include but are not limited to: the shift the staff member holds and the frequency/necessity of driving during that shift, the amount of time before the staff member may be approved to drive by the insurance carrier, the availability of other staff on site to drive agency vehicles as program needs require, etc.
• Able to complete a background check, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and completion of all Community Care Licensing requirement documents. Able to meet all licensing requirements of Community Care Licensing.

What You Will Do

The function of the Residential Advocate (On-Call Alameda & Solara) is to provide necessary shift coverage for the overall operation and function of RP shelter for individuals with a reported history of sex/labor trafficking, domestic violence, or who are at risk of such abuse. Additionally, the Residential Advocate will provide support and assistance to Case Management staff. This position is on-call and does not have regularly scheduled hours. You will be contacted when there is an available shift to be filled. You must work a minimum of one 8 hour shift every other month.

Responsibilities include

1. Monitors assigned area of facility during shifts
2. Arrival must be punctual, as the schedule is firm and offers no flexibility.
3. Perform telephone screening for potential clients.
4. Transport clients when needed.
5. Includes general maintenance and cleaning, chore supervision, stocking, and general supply inventory as part of extensive advocate duties.
6. Provide clerical support, including data entry and filing.
7. Provide confidential, holistic, client-centered, trauma-sensitive services.
8. Greet new residents, provide tours of the facility, and assist with room orientation.
9. Assist with general facility operations.
10. Offer in-person or phone shift coverage as backup for other Adult Residential Programs when needed.
11. Complete and submit functional timesheets by the assigned due dates, adhering to the specified time allocations.
12. Actively participate in reflective supervision.
13. Participate actively in all RP meetings and training sessions.
14. Document and maintain all job-related processes and procedures.
15. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
16. Cultivate an environment of inclusivity where all gender identities and expressions are affirmed and respected.

Working Conditions

This position is 100% in-person. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress. Local travel in the greater Bay Area will be required.

The pay scale for this role is $26 per hour (non-exempt). The benefits that come with working at RP include immediate vesting in our 403(b) with a generous match. This is an in person on-call hourly position. Applicants must be located in the greater Bay Area.
