Job summary

Starburst Data is seeking a highly skilled, self-starting Resident Solution Architect to work with customers, understand their business challenges, and architect & implement solutions using Starburst products. You will collaborate with partners, design training programs, and serve as a trusted advisor to maximize data value and business outcomes.

You will lead end-to-end solutions, mentor teams, and stay ahead of data management and analytics trends while ensuring secure, governed access to data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 8+ years in a technical role (solution architect, data engineer, or software engineer).
  • Deep understanding of data architecture, modeling, integration, and warehousing.
  • Proficiency in SQL and distributed query engines (Presto/Trino, Spark).
  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking for business challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with customers and teams.
  • Experience with Linux, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and programming (Java/Python/Bash) is a plus.
  • Prior client-facing/consulting and open-source experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers to understand goals, data architecture, and requirements.
  • Design end-to-end solutions leveraging Starburst products for data access and analytics.
  • Develop architectural diagrams, specs, and implementation plans for projects.
  • Lead implementation and deployment, coordinating with customer teams and stakeholders.
  • Learn engine connectors and 3rd-party integrations in depth.
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices to customers on Starburst products.
  • Work with partners to train and upskill external personnel for delivery.
  • Create resources, best practices, and diagrams to enhance partner delivery capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during implementation and operation.
  • Stay current on industry trends, AI governance, data security, and risks in AI queries.

About the role

Starburst Data is seeking a highly skilled and motivated and self-starting individual to join our team as a Resident Solution Architect. In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with our customers to understand their business challenges and requirements, and then architecting and implementing solutions using Starburst products. In this role, you will also work closely with our partner ecosystem and will design and implement comprehensive training programs, ensuring partners are equipped to deliver top-tier solutions to clients. As a Resident Solution Architect, you will serve as a trusted advisor to our customers, helping them maximize the value of their data and achieve their business objectives.

As a Resident Solution Architect at Starburst you will:
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their business goals, data architecture, and technical requirements.
  • Design end-to-end solutions that leverage Starburst products to address customer needs, including data access, analytics, and performance optimization.
  • Develop architectural diagrams, technical specifications, and implementation plans for customer projects.
  • Lead the implementation and deployment of Starburst solutions, working closely with customer teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Learn in depth how the engine, connectors and integrations with 3rd party products work.
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices to customers on using Starburst products effectively.
  • Work with partners to train and upskill external personnel on Starburst Products for successful delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to create resources, best practices, application flow diagrams and internal processes that enhance partner delivery capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during the implementation and operation of Starburst solutions.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management and analytics.
Some of the things we look for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in a technical role, such as solution architect, data engineer, or software engineer.
  • Deep understanding of data architecture principles, including data modeling, data integration, and data warehousing.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with distributed query engines (e.g., Presto, Trino, Apache Spark).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about business challenges and technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and internal teams.
  • Experience with Linux OS, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), containerization technologies (e.g., Docker and Kubernetes) and programming/scripting (Java/Python/Bash) is a plus.
  • Prior experience in client facing / consulting roles is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with open-source technologies and contributions to the open-source community are highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with running technical training internally or externally is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with LLM-based data interaction patterns (e.g., natural language to SQL, retrieval-augmented generation) is a plus.
  • Understanding of AI governance, data security, and risks associated with AI-generated queries and insights is a plus.
Ability to Travel

This role will require 25% in-person travel for purposes including but not limited to new hire onboarding, team and department offsites, customer.
