Job Summary

The Resident Services Specialist serves as a resident advocate and resource connector within Catholic Charities Community Services affordable housing communities. This position works closely with residents to identify needs, provide support, and facilitate access to community resources, healthcare, educational opportunities, employment services, and other supportive programs that promote housing stability and overall well-being.

The Resident Services Specialist develops and maintains collaborative relationships with public and private service providers, community organizations, volunteers, and other partners to enhance the quality of life for residents. This role coordinates community‑building activities, educational workshops, and resident engagement opportunities that foster a sense of belonging, self‑sufficiency, and empowerment.

Working directly with residents, volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners, the Resident Services Specialist helps advance the mission of Catholic Charities by supporting individuals and families in achieving long‑term stability and improved life outcomes. This position requires flexibility to accommodate resident and community needs, including occasional evenings and Saturdays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Serves as primary social service contact at assigned affordable housing community(ies), maintaining a professional and welcoming demeanor and informing new residents of the services provided as the Resident Services Specialist.
  • Works with residents, partners and supervisor to learn about unmet needs, program interests, and potential ways to engage with Catholic Charities and their housing community.
  • Co‑develops Resident Councils and provides oversight while encouraging and inviting all residents to organize activities like support groups, skill‑building workshops and social events that positively impact the housing community.
  • Develops, maintains and distributes a directory of local resources and services.
  • Works with supervisor and community partners to develop housing community programming adhering to compliance standards for the assigned community.
  • Provides basic grant research and proposal ideas and deadlines as needed, contributing to preparation and submission with the guidance of the Philanthropy team and Program Manager.
  • Provides referrals and introductions for services.
  • Educates residents and assists them in accessing entitlement programs and other federal, state and community resources.
  • Advocates for services and programs on behalf of individual residents and the residential community as a whole.
  • Supports volunteer opportunities in collaboration with agency programs, corporate, faith‑based and community outreach efforts. Assists with recruitment, training, orientation, support and recognition of volunteers. Coordinates weekly onsite programs and services for the resident community related to increasing the residents' self‑sufficiency such as wellness, financial education, workforce development or benefits. These activities must meet contractual agreements and compliance.
  • Captures and reports program and service offerings and participant engagement. Utilizes findings to improve work.
  • Assists in planning, promoting and implementing educational, skills development, youth activities and event planning in affordable housing communities that will increase resident and community engagement.
  • Coordinates collaborative efforts with community groups (e.g., Art Heals, churches, civic groups, schools), community agencies, institutions of higher education, and volunteers to provide onsite social and support activities and services; e.g., congregate meals, after school programs, day care or computer education.
  • Supports and strengthens collaboration through regular follow‑up and communications the collaboration of new and existing faith‑based and community partnerships with the Community Engagement Lead and Director of Community Engagement and Volunteer Services in the Office of Philanthropy. Provides promotional and creative support to enhance resident services and community outreach efforts and recognition.
  • Serves as agency representative at residential housing community functions, including giving presentations as opportunities arise and are confirmed with supervisor.
  • Produces, posts, disseminates and submits for reporting a monthly newsletter and calendar of events.
  • Maintains documentation of residential housing services and prepares reports as needed or requested documenting progress of programs, activities, and partnerships.
  • Participates in and supports Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) initiatives to include attending appropriate training meetings to ensure organization‑wide involvement in PQI and the development of program performance measurements.
  • Promotes ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services to our staff and clients.
  • Drives agency vehicle to transport clients as needed based on site assignment and program needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education / Background: High School Diploma plus 3 years’ equivalent work experience in group activity creation and coordination, community engagement experience, preferably in a faith‑based setting. Experience working with culturally diverse populations including children, families, seniors, veterans, and disabled community. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred. Experience in low‑income communities or affordable housing communities is a plus. Experience in customer service industry is a plus. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Job Knowledge: Must have knowledge and understanding of human behavior, social work theories and techniques as well as community resources including federal and applicable state entitlement programs. Knowledge of economic, educational and social problems related to low‑income and special populations. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the agency and community. Strong leadership skills with an ability to supervise volunteers and interns. Proven public speaking and relationship‑building skills and competency. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications (Word & Outlook).
  • Working Conditions / Physical Demands: Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditorily interact with clients and staff. Requires considerable work outside of the office and some travel within the state. Requires some evening and weekend work on occasion. May lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid AZ driver’s license, reliable transportation and ability to show proof of registration/insurance.
    • Level One Fingerprint clearance or ability to obtain fingerprint clearance; must maintain clearance.
    • You must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Catholic Charities.
    • Must have or complete within 90 days of hire training in CPR and First Aid and remain current in the certification.
