Job summary

HDR is seeking a Resident Project Representative I to join our Building Engineering Services team in Texas. You’ll support the execution of multidisciplinary data center and commercial projects from site visits to closeout, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or equivalent.
  • Experience on multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings and specs; identify discrepancies.
  • Team player with strong communication.
  • Solid understanding of contracts, codes, and laws.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Primavera.
  • Willing to travel and work onsite.
  • Visa sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings and specs; flag conflicts.
  • Maintain daily records of contractor activities and resources.
  • Review materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates.
  • Attend and chair construction progress meetings.
  • Observe installation and testing of equipment.
  • Identify nonconforming work and create punch lists.
  • Prepare record docs for engineer review.
  • Assist with project audit and closeout.
  • Supervise junior staff and subconsultants.

In the role of Resident Project Representative I, we’ll count on you to:

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor’s daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
  • Review construction materials for Contract compliance
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
  • Assist with project audit/closeout
  • Work under general supervision of a more-senior Resident Project Representative or Design Project Manager
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Previous data center construction experience with an engineering or consulting firm
  • Ability to read, interpret, and monitor construction schedules and project timelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions to the Engineer
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with contractors, clients, inspectors, and project team members
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a field environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work onsite at client locations as required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated construction experience on multidisciplinary projects
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
